Detailed Position Information
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time, Clinical Assistant Professor of Elementary Education (grades PreK–6) with a specific interest in Literacy Education. The University of Alabama is a Research I institution with considerable emphasis on recruiting productive scholars and effective instructors. This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position with a contract of three years, eligible for renewal.
Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses focused on grades PreK–6 literacy education
- Supervise practicum and internship experiences as needed
- Collaborate in further development of innovative undergraduate and graduate grades PreK–6 literacy education courses and programs
- Collaborate with local schools and school systems
- Provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Starting Date: August 16, 2027
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned Doctorate in Reading/Literacy Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in literacy education
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience at the PreK–6 levels
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate literacy courses in the Elementary Education program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction
- Ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students and interns
- Demonstrated potential to provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations
- Demonstrated potential to collaborate in elementary schools through partnership activities
