Clinical Assistant Professor of Higher Education
Job Position Description
The Department of Educational Studies (www.edst.purdue.edu) within the College of Education at Purdue University invites applications for a 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor of Higher Education, beginning no later than August 17, 2026.
The Higher Education program has delivered a redesigned, research-intensive, and successful Ph.D. program since 2019. The program area offers:
- A hybrid Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Higher Education
- An online Master’s degree in Educational Studies with a concentration in Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership
This position will serve both the Ph.D. and Master’s programs.
The Higher Education faculty are dedicated to preparing future administrators and faculty members in the PK–22 education spectrum. With this position, the program seeks a colleague to expand expertise in the sociology of education with particular emphasis on PK–22 education environments. The ideal colleague will utilize critical and creative approaches to engage students in discourse regarding how higher education organizational systems, structures, and policies influence the PK–22 landscape at local, state, federal, and global levels. Experience in study abroad leadership and instruction in transformative leadership in PK–22 environments is desired.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Teach courses (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) in both the Higher Education Ph.D. and the Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership Master’s programs.
Clinical faculty teach 3 classes in the Fall and 3 classes in the Spring. - Mentor and engage in scholarship with Ph.D. students, serving as research mentor for student peer-reviewed research papers.
Demonstration of ability to author and mentor peer-reviewed research is highly desired. - Contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession.
- Assist in coordinating recruitment and support services for the Master's program.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. with a concentration in higher education or related field by the start date.
- A strong record or demonstrated potential for research productivity in peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals.
- Previous teaching experience or the ability to teach in both the Ph.D. and Master’s programs in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of teaching excellence.
- Strong methodological experience in one or more areas (e.g., single-case experimental research, randomized control trials, systematic literature review).
