Position Summary

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Columbia University is seeking a Clinical Coordinator/Nurse Practitioner. The position will report to the High-Risk Perinatal Practice Medical Director and Division Administrator of Maternal Fetal Medicine. The primary function is to assume responsibility for the assessment of patients in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice. The incumbent will be part of a team environment and should demonstrate a persona commitment to outstanding customer service. Must maintain current licensure and certification. Function under the collaborative practice agreement for delegated medical aspects of care with collaborating physician(s). Participates in nursing and health related research.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all intake/new appointments and triage patients to the appropriate MFM physician.
  • Conduct new diabetic consultations, including appropriate nutritional counseling.
  • Perform follow-up diabetic blood glucose reviews and initiate or modify medication as appropriate.
  • Conduct postpartum visits.
  • Independently manage a patient panel with more complex health issues.
  • Provide advanced care for chronic conditions.
  • Serve as a mentor or preceptor for new NPs and nursing staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement and education initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.
  • May supervise other healthcare providers.
  • Manage urgent and walk-in patient appointments.
  • Provide general gynecologic care to patients between pregnancies.
  • Perform IUD insertion and removal as appropriate.
  • Assist providers as necessary with issues requiring clinical follow-up.
  • Partner with the practice’s RN to educate patients on clinical issues, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate care for Maternal Medicine patients, including communication with referring physicians for transfer patients.
  • Assist in the development of protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other MFM centers and programs—such as Mother Centers, the Center for Prenatal Pediatrics, the Preterm Prevention Center, the Diabetic Program, and others—to provide the best care to high-risk patients.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary care team to establish and achieve patient and family health goals.
  • Collaborate with administration and professional staff on the establishment and implementation of community services.
  • Follow up with all patients who call the service center and leave a message, regardless of whether a provider has already returned the patient’s call.
  • Assess all abnormal results.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Licensure & Certifications: Current New York State RN and NP licensure; ANCC board certification; BLS certification; DEA registration. Must maintain all required licensure and certifications throughout employment as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of nursing or related experience; OB/GYN experience.
  • Ability to work indoors in an environmentally controlled setting with some dust, noise, and odors without undue discomfort.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work primarily involving sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Travel between clinical sites may be required based on operational needs.
  • Duties routinely require exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; incumbent is expected to perform and/or assist in emergency care and/or first aid as needed.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills; ability to de-escalate stressful situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population with tact, respect, and sensitivity.
  • An engaged, positive team member demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, punctuality, and adaptability—including helping peers adjust to new situations.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Electronic Health Record systems, Microsoft Word and Excel, and email platforms.
  • Self-motivated with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
  • High level of professionalism and maturity; ability to work independently.
  • Outpatient practice experience.

Hours Per Week: 35

Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000
