Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiac MRI
About the role
Applications are invited for a clinical research fellow in Cardiac MRI to undertake clinical and research activity focussed on advanced adult congenital cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging under the supervision of Dr Kuberan Pushparajah and Dr Alessandra Frigiola within the Department of Cardiovascular Imaging, School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London.
Applicants should be medically qualified with full GMC registration. The post is suitable for Specialty Trainees in Cardiology who intend to specialise in adult cardiac imaging sub-specialty or who have already commenced training in general cardiology and wish to gain more sub-specialty experience in Cardiac MRI (CMR), by taking an Out-Of-Programme Experience (OOPE) from their current training programmes. The ideal candidate would be at the end of their training (Post CCT) and looking for sub-speciality experience in CMR imaging both from congenital heart diseases as well as non-congenital heart diseases perspective to (further) support/expand their medical career or seeking experience in clinical research.
The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage projects, work to deadlines and collaborate with clinical teams. Prior research experience and peer-reviewed publications are highly desirable but not essential.
Our Cardiac MRI service is run through extended days during weekdays covering from 08:00 to 20:00 hours, 5 days a week. You are expected to participate in a rota of shifts across the 5-day working week covering some early shifts and some late shifts. There will be some requirement to run weekend lists as and where required to help with waiting list pressures.
CMR clinical staff may be asked to participate in clinical duties over the festive period and therefore may not be able to take 4 King’s concessionary/closure days at this time. Instead, the entitlement would be provided through time off in lieu.
This is a full time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC registered
- Valid ALS Qualification
- Clinical experience in care of cardiac patients in both in outpatient and inpatient settings
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Proven knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good computing skills
Desirable criteria
- Post CCT in cardiology or in last six months for the completion of CCT qualification
- MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent
- SCMR Level 1/2 or equivalent experience and knowledge (as outlined in SCMR guidance)
- Experience in cardiovascular imaging and or MR including attendance at courses
- Experience of preparing IRAS/REC documentation

£38,831 - £73,992 per annum, plus £2,162 London Weighting Allowance
