Position Summary/Description:

The UNC Department of Family Medicine in partnership with the UNC Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks a clinician-scientist with a scholarly focus on chronic illness and/or problems of aging. This joint recruitment provides a superb opportunity for building or enhancing a career in clinical research by providing superb research resources, colleagues with a variety of ranks and backgrounds, links to all six health science schools, a large clinical operation, and world-class informatics. The physician researcher will serve as a clinician educator in the Department and as Deputy Director of the Sheps Center's Program on Aging, Chronic Illness, and Long-Term Care.

As a faculty physician in family medicine, you will be an integral part of the department's success. Our team members advance the tripartite mission of the UNC School of Medicine, including excellent patient care, superior teaching, and impactful research. We support our faculty with professional development opportunities in the department, in the institution, and nationally. Each faculty member is supported by a mentoring subcommittee that helps build the framework to a successful career, including career planning, counseling around career goals, and regular review of academic activities, all tailored to individual professional and personal goals.

As a faculty clinician, you will provide patient care in one of our Family Medicine Centers and/or on our inpatient service at UNC Hillsborough Hospital, based on applicant interest and department need, with cFTE determined with the fair and standard allocation of FTE credit applied to all faculty. Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent UNC faculty physician benefits and clinical incentive pay.

Like other faculty in the department, the person in this position will fulfill the institution's teaching mission and will teach and mentor medical students, interns, residents, fellows, and other learners in a variety of clinical settings. All faculty are encouraged to develop a scholarly interest which, in this case, will focus on aging, chronic illness, and long-term care. All faculty are expected to work as part of the larger team to improve access, reduce cost, improve quality, and promote efficiency and better health outcomes. You may be asked to engage in community outreach and attend professional events to assist with program development and building professional relationships.
