College Laboratory Assistant 2: Computer Science Tutor
Job Description
The mission of the Tutoring Center is to help students learn. We meet students where they are with empathy, expertise, and support tailored to each student’s needs. Professional Computer Science Tutors are a critical part of our work, providing one-to-one and small group tutorials in computer science for Metro State students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide one-to-one and small group-based tutorials in computer science for Metro State University undergraduate and graduate students.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of tutorials through Client Report Forms in the WCOnline scheduling and record keeping platform to support department-wide assessment work.
- Perform other activities as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department, to demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement and professional development, and to collaborate with personnel/departments across the University to facilitate student success.
Salary Range
$45,000-62,000 (Please note that the range listed above reflects full time 40 hours/week. This position is intermittent and eligible for up to 18 hours per week.)
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate or higher degree in computer science or a related field
- Course work or training in computer science algorithms, object-oriented programming, and foundational mathematics, and languages such as Python, Java, SQL, and C
- AND
- One (1) academic year of academic teaching/tutoring experience in computer science at the high school level or above
- OR An equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or higher degree in computer science or a relevant discipline/area of study
- Experience working in a diverse, minority-serving higher educational institution
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to deliver academic tutorial assistance in oral English to post-traditional, multicultural, multilingual, ESL, and/or first-generation students
- Competent use of Microsoft Office products, Zoom, D2L, and browser-based applications
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems collaboratively and work as part of a diverse team
- Willingness to work a part-time schedule, potentially including early evenings or Saturdays
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
This position is intermittent and is capable of being scheduled up to 18 hours/week. 9:30 am-6:00 pm Monday-Saturday Potential evening hours- up to 8:00 pm
