Commercial Drivers License Instructor

Job Description

Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking a responsible and qualified instructor to join its growing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program. The instructor will support the expansion of CDL-A and CDL-B training at the Elko main campus as well provide periodic CDL-A and CDL-B training at Ely, Pahrump, and Winnemucca; the instructor also will oversee the launch of CDL-B training at Elko.

Responsibilities include teaching all aspects of the CDL program, including Class A and B, Tanker, and Double/Triple endorsements, as needed, as well as assisting with class scheduling, student recruitment, and job placement. Candidates certified to teach CDL-B with Passenger Endorsement preferred.

This position is grant funded, and contingent upon ongoing and available funding through June 30, 2027.

Qualifications:

• Must possess a Nevada Commercial Driver's License with endorsements required for the position.
• Five years of driving experience or related transportation experience.
• Three years clean driving record with no DUIs.
• Teaching experience is highly recommended.
• Familiarity with basic computer applications and office duties related to staying in compliance with FMCSA.
• Experience in or willingness to learn distance delivery methods, including interactive video and online (internet) technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Schedule and coordinate CDL instruction in consideration of student and program needs.
• Teach courses related to A, B, Passenger (where possible), Tanker, Double and Triple CDL endorsements.
• Travel throughout GBC's 86,000-mile service area to teach 4-6-week classes.
• Maintain and update curriculum as needed.
• Work with state and federal agencies.
• Train students in vehicles with various transmission configurations.
• Model safe and proper driving skills while operating vehicles that require a CDL.
• Work with Department of Motor Vehicles departments to schedule student tests.
• Know state and federal law as related to CDL.
• Work well with the lead GBC CDL Instructor and CDL program staff.
• Participate in college activities and committee work.

Compensation Grade

Academic Faculty - 1

This is a 12 month "A" contract position, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.
