Commercial Music Lecturer
Position Summary
Central Michigan University School of Music seeks a Lecturer in Commercial Music. This is a full-time, 9-month, fixed-term appointment, which may be renewable. Duties include: teach courses as assigned in commercial music and related areas of expertise including pop or commercial music ensemble; assist with the development of coursework in the commercial music degree; additional duties including participating on joint interdepartmental Commercial Music Council may be assigned in accordance with areas of expertise and in consultation with the Director of the School of Music.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in music production, music engineering, music technology, recording arts, or a similar field; commensurate professional experience in music production will be considered in lieu of a graduate degree.
- Professional teaching experience in higher education (beyond GA duties) in the field of music technology, production, or related areas.
- Experience using and teaching a variety of Digital Audio Workstations and virtual instruments.
- Experience producing/teaching a variety of popular musical styles and genres.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching music theory fundamentals and aural skills for audio engineers.
- Experience teaching class guitar (electric and acoustic).
- Experience organizing/coaching/leading student popular music ensembles.

The School of Music is located in a state-of-the-art 119,000 square foot facility with a 500-seat concert hall housing a 61-rank Casavant organ, a 100-seat recital hall, recording facilities, and 79 practice rooms.
