We are seeking a proactive and skilled Communications Coordinator who is passionate about sharing the positive impact that sport and physical activity can have on mental and physical health, skill development, social networks, and our sense of belonging. The role holder will focus on storytelling, celebrating our programmes, new initiatives, facilities, partnerships and successes.

The post holder will work with the Senior Management Team to develop and deliver a communications strategy for Sport and Physical Activity using multi-channel approach. Key audiences include students (current and prospective) and their families, staff, alumni, partners, and the community. The role holder will also work in collaboration with the university internal communications teams, the Office of External Affairs and Communications, the Development and Alumni Relations Office, Colleges, and local and regional press.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and sharing positive impact stories from University of Cambridge Sport using a multi-channel approach that makes use of both push and pull communication.
  • Supporting the development of an alumni engagement programme through the writing of newsletters and relevant sports specific content.
  • Supporting student sports clubs with communications training and education programmes, particularly the appropriate and effective use of social media.
  • Coordinating a centralised calendar for the Sports Service, including sport and physical activity programmes (students, staff and the Community), sports events, commercial events and campaigns.
  • Organising the Sports Services live streaming capability and programme.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will join us with:

  • Experience of working in a communications role.
  • A clear passion for sport that can be transferred through creative content creation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organisational and prioritising abilities.
  • Experience of updating websites using a content management system.
  • A degree level qualification / Level 6 vocational qualification or equivalent experience.

The role holder will need to work a range of hours to support business needs, which will include some evening and weekend work. They will also need to travel between Sports Service operational sites and attend events both locally and at national venues (Varsity Matches).
