Job Summary

Position Emphasis:

The full-time (1.0 FTE) Content and Communications Specialist position serves as the College of Nursing's specialist in content creation for our website, HubSpot newsroom, emails and campaigns, social media channels, and video storytelling.

The Content and Communications Specialist will work closely with the college's marketing team, recruitment team, faculty, student representatives, and alumni to source, develop, and execute content for the college's spectrum of marketing channels, including print, social media, and website. Content created by the Content and Communication Specialist will promote awareness of and boost engagement with the College of Nursing among prospective students, current students, alumni/donors, faculty, and clinic patients. They are also responsible for developing content that aligns with the website to improve the user experience for prospective students, staff, faculty, and patients. The ideal candidate will have an eye for design and effective page layout, be able to write marketing-oriented copy, be detail-oriented, and work well in a team environment. This person will act as a backup to the digital communications/website specialist to edit and update pages on the website when the digital communications specialist is unavailable.

Duty Breakdown:

Story Development/Story Telling (60%)

  • Conception, copywriting, and creation of compelling, engaging, story-driven content to promote awareness of and boost engagement with the College of Nursing among prospective students, current students, alumni/donors, faculty, and clinic patients. Content to include articles, press releases, podcasts, graphics, photos, and videos, including writing, editing, and producing for communications platforms, including email, newsletters, magazines, website, presentations, social media, and other promotional materials. Playing a leading role in managing three commencement programs, including program management, writing, proofreading, reviewing, and ensuring print and digital versions are completed on time. This may require attending College events, sometimes outside standard business hours, including graduations, alumni events, lectures, speakers, etc.

Website Content Development (15%)

  • Working closely with the marketing team, the Content and Communication Specialist is responsible for developing content that aligns with the website to improve the user experience for prospective students, staff, faculty, and patients. This content is driven by site goals and the university's framework (Sitefinity, SharePoint, and Duda), utilizing programs like Siteimprove and WAVE to ensure compliance and accessibility. They are also responsible for crafting simple, conversational content that matches the established voice and tone direction-specifically, an approachable and friendly style that speaks directly to the audience. This position will have an eye for design and effective page layout, be able to write marketing-oriented copy, be detail-oriented, and work well in a team environment. It will also act as a backup to the Digital Communications/Website Specialist to edit and update pages on the website when the Digital Communications Specialist is unavailable.

Email Development and Administration (15%)

  • Utilizing the campus' email platforms (Marketing Cloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud), the Specialist will design and write emails for internal and external audiences (Dean's monthly communications, communications for experiential programs directed to community partners, College-wide communications that require a trackable system), ensuring accessibility while tracking emails and providing reports to clients (HR, Academic Programs, Alumni, Student Affairs). It will act as a conduit to the Digital Communications Manager at the Anschutz Medical Campus, who has access to load lists to the system.

Social Media (10%)

  • In support of the College's student recruitment and alumni engagement efforts, this position will plan and execute the promotion of the College to increase awareness and engagement among target audiences using social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). This work will complement the Marketing Department's larger digital marketing and communication strategy. The position will be able to create video and graphics for social media and have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and Premiere Pro/Adobe Express), and/or Canva.

Examples of Duties Performed:

  • Work with the Director to develop compelling, engaging content for the College's communication platforms, including email, newsletters, magazines, the website, presentations, social media, and other promotional materials. The content to be created includes emails, written (print) stories, video stories, presentations, and graphics.
  • Network among Nursing College staff, faculty, and students to identify and develop stories.
  • Network with other Anschutz Medical Campus communicators to collaborate on stories, repurpose content, and share content with their audiences.
  • Develop original content and story ideas, interview students and faculty, write and/or script stories, including social posts to promote the content.
  • Must be self-motivated, work quickly, and have an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Identify real-time opportunities to connect relevant cultural trends, current news, and online conversations with the people/work/stories of the college and create engaging content that draws our audience into those connections.
  • Rewrite existing website copy to align with brand, voice & tone as part of campus website redesign, and write copy for new web pages/assets as dictated by need and creative direction.
  • Translate a marketing strategy through content creation.
  • Drive audience growth through strategic creation and implementation of original content.
  • Integrate content strategies across relevant channels, including web, social, print, and earned media.
  • Work with media relations consultant to develop content for pitches (might include video).
  • Work with internal video resources to create authentic videos for social media, the website, and pitching. Take photos and shoot videos, interview students and faculty, and edit the stories for use across the college's media platforms.
  • Employ best practices when writing for the web, including search engine optimization.
  • Assist in developing content for email journeys for prospective students and alumni.
  • Stay current with best practices for new media and social media and adjust writing style to maximize reach.
  • Update web content when the CU Nursing Website and Social Media Specialist is unavailable.
  • Support the college's web position by serving as a backup responder on the CU Nursing- webmaster email account and responding to emails from faculty/staff as needed.

Work Location: Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of three (3) days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level:

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year of professional-level writing and developing content for a higher education organization, non-profit, or news organization.

Senior Level:

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of professional-level experience writing and developing content for a higher education organization, non-profit, or news organization.

Substitution (All Levels): A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (All Levels):

  • Experience creating content to include articles, press releases, including writing, editing, and producing for communications platforms such as email, newsletters, magazines, websites, presentations, social media, and other promotional materials.
  • Experience with working with brands/products/services to promote growth and impact of said brands/products/services.
  • Experience in creating content that is relevant and related to cultural trends across the ever-changing, ever-growing landscape of marketing channels, platforms, and touchpoints.
  • Experience in conducting marketing research, such as identifying why and how a topic influences our audience and communicating that effectively through copywriting and content.
  • Experience in research, from the driest of topics to trending memes and zeitgeists; identifying why and how they matter to our audience; and communicating that effectively through copywriting and content.

Anticipated Pay Range:

  • Intermediate Level: $50,185 to $58,716
  • Senior Level: $54,254 to $63,477

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
