We're looking for a Content Designer to join our team at the School of Clinical Medicine for a fixed term period of twelve months.
You'll join a small project team developing a new website for the School, whilst also being a member of a growing network of user researchers, analysts and designers across the wider University working to transform products and services used by the organisations 60,000 students and staff.
What you'll be working on
We're starting a new phase of work on our School website, having completed the initial discovery phase, with the delivery of the design from an external agency expected soon. We're looking for someone who can manage complex website projects and work with a variety of different people, taking this project from design to build within twelve months. You'll be working with staff in the School and its institutions that have external facing content, with the aim to enhance the School's online presence, improve accessibility, and support the School's broader objectives in research, education, and collaboration. This includes doing research, analytics and audits, writing and publishing user-centred content, training and advising.
You'll have support from a wider team of content designers who readily share their knowledge and experience, and take part in regular content crits and design sessions.
The person and skills we're looking for
As a Content Designer you will:
- make user journeys the best they can be and choose the best format for displaying information to the user
- scope, write and edit content so it is relevant, understandable and accessible
- manage relationships with subject matter experts to ensure content is accurate
- help teams across the School of Clinical Medicine to apply new standards to their content through training, communications and hands-on support
- communicate findings to the team and the wider organisation, helping to develop empathy for our users and inform evidence-based decisions
- help to ensure our digital presence reflects our reputation
Are you the right candidate?
- Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Extensive experience of writing for online environments, with proven ability to create content that is accessible and usable.
- Proven experience in using metrics and user feedback to define and improve content.
- Experience of working from start to finish of Agile projects, ideally to Government Digital Service standards.
The role details
This position is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract. You'll be working hybrid with some work undertaken on University premises and some at home. The School of Clinical Medicine is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The majority of the wider University Content Design Team work remotely and meet in Cambridge occasionally for workshops, team meetings and project work.
