Job Description:
Function of Position:
The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President, Administrative Services. The Controller directs and records all college financial activity that includes the receipt, expenditure, and safe-keeping of funds and provides direct supervision of the Assistant Controller, Director of Payroll, Director of Student Accounts, Director of Purchasing, and Management Assistant.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
- Interpret college financial policies, write and implement procedures to ensure that the policies are followed.
- Provide college leadership with a timely review of the college's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities. Prepare financial reports that summarize and forecast college economic and financial activity in areas of revenues, expenditures, and net assets based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Develop and implement cost-saving measures; contribute to revenue; conserve organizational resources.
- Serve as custodian of all college-owned assets.
- Develop, implement, and control college cash management operations.
- Ensure expenditures of all college's economic resources are performed in accordance with rules, regulations, and mandates of the college's Board of Trustees, the County of Monroe, the State University of New York, and the US Department of Education.
- Oversee and provide updates to procedures for the perpetual maintenance of the college's fixed assets.
- Propose operational adjustments based on federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
- Serve as the college liaison for external and federal audits of the college's official records, general ledgers, and accounts.
- Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Write clearly and informatively; varied writing style to meet the needs of the intended audience; present numerical data effectively.
- Listen and clearly, effectively, and decisively communicate via a variety of styles and techniques.
- Present and interpret data to various college stakeholders.
- Administer the review and implementation of all contracts and leases.
- Encourage and nurture the professional development of staff.
- Create a supportive team-oriented atmosphere.
- Assist with the development of divisional goals.
- Ensure departmental support of the college's mission and vision.
- Responsible for adhering to the College Code of Conduct.
- Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative college environment.
- Collaborate within a union environment, supervising union and non-union employees, actively supporting union contract negotiations.
- Perform various other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Ten years of progressively responsible financial management experience
- Five years of experience in a managerial position with supervisory responsibility for a complex financial operation.
- Expertise in integrated financial systems and related automated systems applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Business Administration, Finance, or another financial field
- CPA designation
- Working knowledge of general municipal law
- Experience in using Banner software
- Experience in Higher Education
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary:
Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $110,000 to $140,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit-eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting, and compressed work schedules. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based on business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.
Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
