Position Title: Coordinator-Disability SrvcsDepartment: Disability Services
Term of Assignment: Continuing
FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtime
Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional weekend and evening hours.
Salary: Targeted Salary Range: $46,240-$49,700
Travel: No travel
Brief Statement of Duties:
Review disability diagnosis documentation and determine appropriate disability accommodations for students with disabilities. Arrange for the provision of technologies and aids/aides that will assist students with disabilities and investigate alternative forms of technology to provide necessary accommodations. Meet with, and assist, students and faculty on a daily basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Required Minimum Work Experience: Two years' professional experience working in higher education or with individuals of a special population (disabilities, academically disadvantaged, economically disadvantaged, new entry students, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Conversant with basic advising or counseling techniques.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Ability to learn State and Federal laws, policies, procedures and practices pertaining to individuals with disabilities.
Ability to learn about diagnostic instruments for the assessment of scholastic aptitude, academic achievement level and individual learning styles.
Ability to learn how to assess the reading, writing, mathematics, study skills and other academic needs of special populations (disabilities, academically disadvantaged, economically disadvantaged, new entry students, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication, and listening skills.
Ability to problem solve and manage one's own time and the time of others.
Ability to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things, while delivering information using multiple methods.
Ability to relate to and motivate students with disabilities and understand the background and needs of the target population.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Secondary Education, Learning Disabilities, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, or relevant degree.
Experience interpreting the results of disability diagnosis documentation or other diagnostic tests.
Experience presenting to groups of 20 or more people.
