JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Coordinator, NCAA Academic Certification

Division: Academic Affairs

Evaluation Group: Staff

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Registrar

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the registrar, the certification coordinator collaborates with appropriate personnel across campus to certify student-athletes for NCAA competition.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Exercises discretion in determining continuing eligibility for returning student-athletes
  • Monitors and certifies full-time enrollment and designation of academic degrees
  • Verifies that student-athletes maintain adequate credits to stay on-track toward degree completion
  • Monitors student-athlete grade point average (GPA), academic standing, and major/minor enrollment status according to NCAA guidelines
  • Reviews and certifies all transfer credits and calculation of transferrable GPA
  • Ensures coaches follow all necessary procedures to maintain student-athlete eligibility
  • Manages the NCAA certification of clearing process
  • Develops and manages processes related to student record systems
  • Reviews overall academic eligibility rosters for all teams, taking action as necessary
  • Complies with all NCAA, conference and institutional rules and regulations

Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values
  • Assists with commencement ceremonies

Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with Athletics, Enrollment Management and Student Engagement, academic advisors, and others across campus to certify student-athletes for competition
  • Provides expertise and collaborates with necessary parties in determining solutions to appeals and other matters concerning NCAA and conference guidelines

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ related professional experience
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience in athletic eligibility preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • In-depth understanding of NCAA bylaws and Lindenwood’s institutional policies
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all records reviewed
  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and privacy laws governing higher education
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgement and think critically
  • Familiarity with academic catalogs and academic services policies and procedures
