Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Director of Athletics Communication and New Media is an entry-level professional role designed to enhance the Wheaton Athletics brand through modern digital storytelling and responsive media strategies. Reporting to the Director of Athletics Communication, this individual will lead the department’s efforts in live-streaming production, video content creation, and social media engagement. As part of the NCAA Pathway to Excellence program, this role offers a comprehensive introduction to athletic administration, including budget management, staff oversight, and compliance, while serving as a subject-matter expert on digital trends for the Wheaton community.
This is a two year, grant funded position with a full-time, 11 month annual work schedule (August – June).
Digital Media & Content Creation: Lead the production of high-quality video content, including game highlights, “mic’d up” segments, and sit-down student-athlete interviews. Manage the department’s YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok accounts to increase brand visibility. Identify and implement cutting-edge AI technology into athletic and institutional programming and processes.
Broadcasting & Live Streaming: Oversee the technical execution and production of live-streamed home events via FloSports. Manage equipment setup, graphics integration, and troubleshooting to ensure a professional broadcast experience for fans and alumni. Participate in bi-weekly calls with conference professionals and FloSports staff.
Student/Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of area professional broadcasters and student workers to assist with game-day operations, statistics, and social media coverage, fostering a professional learning environment.
Administrative & Compliance: Assist with budget development and management for communications initiatives, maintain historical records/ statistics, and ensure all media activities comply with NCAA Division III regulations and NEWMAC standards.
Campus Collaboration: Participate in Student Affairs divisional meetings and collaborate with the College’s Marketing and Communications department to align athletics branding with the institutional strategic plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in Communications, Sports Management, Film/New Media, or a related field).
- Technical Skills: Experience in video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud), social media management tools, and familiarity with live-streaming hardware/software.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to fostering a culture of belonging and inclusive excellence.
- Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including frequent evenings and weekends for athletic event coverage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree (preferably in Communications, Sports Management, Film/New Media, or a related field).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud), social media management tools, and experience with live-streaming hardware/software.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The annual salary for this position is $36,800. (This position has an 11 month annual work schedule, August through June).
The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate.
