Position Summary
The Costume Shop Manager oversees the costume shop and stock (9-5pm M-F), ensuring that costumes are produced for all four mainstage productions (and one summer production). Working with the faculty/student/guest designers, they train and oversee the students in the costume shop, assist in training and mentoring student wardrobe team, design assistants, and designers throughout the process from design inception to tech week (evenings and weekends), to strike. The costume shop manager produces/drapes patterns as needed, working with students and faculty to execute all aspects of a costume design (including crafts, hair and makeup), working with student actors, stage managers, and technicians.
Required Education
Bachelors in Theatre or in another related field
Required Experience
At least 2 years of costume shop supervision in an educational or professional costume shop, or commensurate experience in a related field. Must demonstrate knowledge of costume construction, costume technology and crafts... Proficient with standard costume shop equipment... Must be skilled in pattern draping and drafting. Ability to manage budgets, schedules...
Preferred Education
Master’s degree (MA or MFA) in costume design, costume technology, or related field...
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of costume shop supervision and management experience.
- Knowledge of costume history and design...
- Experience with makeup and wigs...
