Job Description:
Apply student development philosophy and theory to provide comprehensive counseling services to students from diverse backgrounds regarding transfer, degree, and career and technical education program planning, career decisions, goal clarification, and personal life management.
Commit to centering equity practices designed to provide essential educational support and services to increase the academic success, retention, degree or certificate completion and transfer rates of the disproportionately impacted student populations.
Counsel students regarding choice of transfer institutions and necessary requirements for programs at other colleges and universities.
Manage electronic student educational plans, course placements, access to student information systems and access the internet for academic, transfer and career planning.
Provide orientation and information sessions related to financial aid topics and eligibility.
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.
Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students. Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
Primary Purpose: Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.
POSITION IS CATEGORICALLY FUNDED
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Desirable Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience counseling disproportionately impacted students in the California Community College system or similar environment to create equitable outcomes and success for all students.
Demonstrated knowledge and competency in theory and principles of counseling, transfer and articulation, and career technical education counseling, assessment and testing, educational psychology and learning theory.
Demonstrated experience with outreach and recruiting; ability to work effectively with local community, students and staff.
Two years demonstrated experience as a community college counselor.
Demonstrated experience teaching student development and/or counseling courses.
Demonstrated experience/knowledge counseling students majoring in Health Science.
Salary Range:
$94,016 - $141,211 Annually
