Position Information:

The SWIFT Clinician is a new role within the Student Well-being, Intervention, and Follow-Through(SWIFT) department, a part of the Mental Health Initiatives team within the division of Health Well-Being and Safety (HWS). This position provides clinical intervention, assessment, education and prevention for a wide range of mental health challenges students may experience. In this role, the SWIFT Clinician will provide professional mental health crisis assessment, treatment/intervention and prevention services in support UC Riverside's commitment to re-envisioning campus safety and policing towards a welcoming service oriented, and community-centric university campus. The incumbent will also promote a campus culture emphasizing fair, collaborative, and trusting community relationships, and respectful and humane methods for mental health and campus safety. The person in this role must be a skilled professional who is multi-culturally proficient/affirming, has experience with trauma-informed care, and demonstrates their experience in providing crisis intervention services. The incumbent will play a critical role to achieving the unit's organizational objectives. The incumbent will respond to crisis situations and may deliver on- and off-site, immediate and personalized interventions within a framework of inclusion, excellence, and social justice. Because the nature of support needed for students in crisis may occur out of the office, services provided out on-campus will be in a co-response model with accompaniment of the newly formed Campus Safety Responder (CSR) team member (a specially trained non-sworn professional trained in de-escalation).This role will also help students navigate resources on- and off-campus, and support students who have challenges related to post-hospitalization/discharge from state or local psychiatric hospitals. Additionally, this role will be asked to work non-traditional work hours from 11AM to 8PM.

The salary range for the SWIFT Clinician is $78,700.00 - $145,100.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $105,000.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements
- Master's degree in related area. Required
- Masters or Doctorate in Psychology or other related Behavioral Health Discipline Required. Required

Conditions
- Maintenance of appropriate continuing education and ongoing education as required for licensure and credentialing/privileging at UCR. Required

Experience Requirements
- 6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
- Demonstrated commitment and experience in providing trauma-informed and diversity, equity and inclusive informed and valued care. Required
- Experience providing mental health crisis assessments. Required
- Experience and value providing multi-culturally proficient/affirming clinical care. Required
- Experience working in a university or college setting. Preferred

License Requirements
- Licensed in behavioral health counseling discipline. Required
- Current, valid license as a behavioral health professional in California (LCSW/LMFT/Psychologist) or ability to gain licensure in California prior to beginning work. Note: maintenance of licensure in good standing is a requirement of continued employment. Required

- Skills associated with program development and implementation.
- Advanced ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group.
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications/systems used in behavioral health settings.
- Advanced knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards. Advanced knowledge of a specific counseling domain.
- Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge in usage of electronic medical records systems for maintenance of clinical records

Key Responsibilities:

  • 35%: Applies advanced concepts to provide counseling, clinical consultation and/or psychotherapy to clients. Develops and communicates treatment plans, provides therapeutic crisis intervention/management and emergency services as required. Responding to incoming calls to SWIFT crisis phone/text line, assess need, and determine how to respond. Triage calls/encounters to determine immediate safety by conducting a risk assessment. Provide immediate counseling support to students experiencing a mental health crisis. Assist with stabilizing/ deescalating students who are distressed/disruptive/ agitated on campus. Respond to legal/ethical matters- e.g. requirements to report the observed or suspected abuse or neglect of children, dependent adults, or elders to designated law enforcement or social service agencies. Advocate for and accompany students, e.g. as a CARE advocate (campus Sexual Violence/Sexual Harassment (SVSH) response department), to support SART exams and/or hospitalization. Refer clients to specialty psychological/psychiatric and other mental health-related services on and off campus. Utilizes specialized training and skills as an LPS certified clinician to determine if, and support, the involuntary hospitalization of individuals as may be determined necessary. Provides on-site assessment and intervention for students identified to be experiencing some mental health related distress. Respond to and evaluate wellness/welfare checks of UCR students who are reported to be in mental health distress.
  • 35%: Assesses clients and determines appropriate therapeutic approach; provides guidance to other providers on casework. Provides brief, ongoing follow-up care and case management support for small 'caseload' of students generated from service 'calls' utilizing knowledge of intersectionality, multiculturalism, and of diversity and inclusion and their impact on psychological service delivery in a university setting to provide direct clinical care. Assist with post-hospitalization case management. Assist with coordinating referrals to campus and community services. Provide ongoing risk assessment, safety planning, bridge support, and stabilization as needed. Regularly obtain ROIs for all interested parties in order to facilitate continuity of care for students. Communicate and consult with daytime clinicians and follow up teams (e.g. CAPS and campus Case Managers) as appropriate to ensure continuity of care/ transfer of care after-hours.
  • 10%: Clinical Documentation and Case Management: Completes accurate and concise clinical documentation for all clinical contacts in compliance with legal, ethical and professional standards and in compliance with UC and UCR Quality Assurance policies. In compliance with SWIFT policies and procedures, manages caseload appropriately.
  • 10%: Conducts seminars and trains professional and paraprofessional staff. Provides psycho-educational workshops, outreach, and consultation for students, faculty, and staff regarding student mental well-being and concerns. May serve as a departmental liaison and/or various committees as assigned.
  • 5%: Professional development and training: Maintains clinical expertise thorough ongoing continuing education in support of maintenance of licensure, credentialing and privileging and maintaining a high level of expertise as a crisis clinician. Participates in ongoing professional development and training of clinical staff.
  • 5%: Other duties as assigned.
