Job Summary:

The Department of Neurological Surgery is seeking outstanding applicants for tenure track Cranial/Cerebrovascular Surgeon faculty position.

This position will be responsible for patient care and surgery, teaching and research responsibilities including the training of medical students, house staff and fellows. The position will provide neurosurgical services for UW Health and will be a key collaborator with other faculty in neurological surgery and cranial programs and services at UnityPoint Health Meriter, UW Health, William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and affiliated hospitals and clinics.

Successful candidates will develop new teaching programs as well as enhance existing programs; attract patient referrals to the service; develop a plan to present information concerning neurosurgery statewide; serve as attending on neurosurgery inpatient and consult service and outpatient clinics; and participate in clinical activities at UnityPoint Health Meriter, UW Health, William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and affiliated hospitals and clinics. Submission of applications for extramural funding and presentation of results at meetings and in publications is expected.

The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, fellows and allied health professionals.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
  • Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
  • This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with JR10007386 Cranial/Cerebrovascular Surgeon (Clinical Health Science Track); please note that only one vacancy exists. Having two job postings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure-track faculty credentials for this position.

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin provides outstanding care and treatment for patients with brain, spine, and peripheral nerve diseases, disorders, and injuries; advances neuroscience knowledge through basic and clinical research; and trains students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.

Compensation:

Negotiable, 12 month

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of residency in Neurological Surgery.
  • WI Medical license by start date of position
  • Board-certified or board eligible in Neurological Surgery by start date of position.
  • Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on tenure track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the UW Divisional Committee guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the tenure track.
  • Fellowship training.
  • Cranial, cerebrovascular and general neurosurgery skills and experience.
  • Skullbase, Cerebrovascular, and Endovascular Training

Education:

MD or DO, or equivalent is required.
