"Culinary Associate"

About the Role

Swarthmore College is seeking a Culinary Associate for its Dining Services department. This role involves working in stations such as Cook, Pizza Cook, Commissary, or Baker, ensuring timely meal production under the direction of the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.

Essential Responsibilities

• Consult daily menu and production sheets.
• Read recipes and produce products consistently.
• Maintain departmental standards for menu items.
• Place finished products on the line timely.
• Ensure safe, high-quality food for faculty, students, and staff.
• Store food products properly, wrapping tightly, dating, and labeling.
• Clean and sanitize equipment, walls, floors, and other areas.
• Promote teamwork by assisting in various kitchen tasks.
• Observe kitchen safety and sanitation rules.
• Use FIFO for proper rotation.
• Utilize cleaning chemicals per safety guidelines.
• Complete all side work and provide customer service.
• Record food temperature logs and follow HACCP requirements.
• Prepare foods at correct temperatures.
• Make suggestions for menu items and communicate with team.
• Maintain professional appearance and organization.

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of cook experience in a high-volume food establishment or completion of a culinary vocational training program.
• Excellent culinary knife skills.
• Recipe scaling for various batch sizes.
• Good interpersonal and team skills.
• Excellent customer service.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and communicate clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Culinary program certificate.
• 3-5 years of experience in high-volume food establishment.
• Serv-safe certification.
• Food Allergen knowledge/certification.
• Valid PA driver's license.

This is a 9-month position from August to May, with a pay of $22.12 per hour.
