Departmental Overview

The Pantas and Ting Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) is the premiere institution at UC Berkeley for the study and practice of entrepreneurship and technology innovation. SCET is globally recognized for developing the Berkeley Method, an internationally recognized approach to teaching technology entrepreneurship to undergraduate students, innovation to graduate students, and technology firm leadership to professionals and executives. The establishment of the Curriculum Design & Pedagogy Manager role is essential for maintaining the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology's (SCET) position at the forefront of innovation. As the landscape of entrepreneurship education is radically reshaped by Artificial Intelligence, this position ensures our pedagogy remains both cutting-edge and academically rigorous. By prioritizing the categorization and standardization of learning journeys, the Manager will create a scalable framework that bridges the gap between world-class instruction and a seamless student experience. This role is a strategic investment in future-proofing our curriculum, allowing SCET to deliver high-impact, consistent educational outcomes while rapidly expanding its global reach.

This is a part-time (50% FTE) Limited term appointment. (A Limited appointment is expected to be on pay status for less than 1,000 hours in a period of 12 consecutive months.)

Responsibilities

40% Leads efforts to conduct highly complex analyses across a broad spectrum of SCET academic programs, policies and initiatives or provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in one policy field. Researches and summarizes best practices in field. Provides analyses for complex academic systems and resource projects working directly with internal and external constituents. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organizational unit. Develops and presents complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options. Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization.

  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing SCET classes with an eye towards curricular content choices, course structure, instructional material, pedagogy, classroom structure, etc. Dissect and categorize course offerings to ensure alignment with industry standards, specific learning objectives and university requirements. Develop a matrix that maps out SCET's educational offerings based on consequential attributes of the curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Modularize course content, in-class activities, and games for scalability. Design and build a digital modular content and teaching resource library.
  • Align BMoE teaching elements with current pedagogical research. Create course design principles, guidelines and rubrics for each course concept based on SCET's current courses and instructional methods (pedagogy) to be able to certify BMoE elements within course proposals and syllabi.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of innovation education at UC Berkeley and peer domestic and global institutions to strengthen the SCET academic brand and future academic offerings. Develop a matrix that maps out the various educational offerings based on consequential attributes of their curriculum and pedagogy and a report that explains the differences and provides a comparative assessment against other programs.
  • Map end-to-end student experiences for diverse populations, ensuring logical progression, high retention, and enhanced engagement from onboarding to graduation. Create learning journey maps to be used to identify gaps in SCET's offerings.

20% Develops and coordinates policy or program communications; formulates strategies for education and enforcement.

  • Full-Cycle Instructor Engagement: Oversee the instructor lifecycle, providing strategic guidance on profiling, recruitment, selection, and retention within University policies.
  • Training & Certification: Redesign instructor training programs. Establish a formal instructor certification process to ensure all faculty can effectively deliver SCET-standardized pedagogy.
  • Evaluation Systems: Develop robust instructor evaluation programs, utilizing classroom observations and data-driven feedback loops to maintain teaching quality.

20% Develops and advocates solutions to organizational program issues, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs. Proposes, leads and / or participates on policy, strategy and planning committees and working groups.

  • Standardization Toolkit: Create and implement standardized tools for evaluations, including unified grading rubrics, feedback best practices, and team formation methodologies.
  • Operational Strategy: Identify and resolve organizational inefficiencies related to SCET academics. Formulate and enforce strategies for academic policy and platform/tech integration.
  • Process Engineering: Develop SOPs for course delivery to ensure that 'The SCET Way' is consistent across all sections, regardless of the subject matter.

20% Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. Makes high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with or persuade officials to adopt the proposed solution or program / process recommendations. Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies.

  • Project Leadership: Lead a wide variety of academic projects, directing staff and faculty (in a cross-functional structure) both inside and outside the organization to meet milestones.
  • Collaborative Planning: Guide and direct planning efforts involving senior management, University faculty, and external industry constituencies.
  • Monitoring & Impact: Coordinate the rollout of new programs and implement monitoring systems to measure the long-term efficacy of pedagogical changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of pedagogy, specifically within entrepreneurship, venture creation, or innovation frameworks.
  • Ability to implement new policies and standardized procedures in a complex, decentralized academic environment (like UC Berkeley).
  • Ability to analyze market trends in innovation education and translate them into actionable curriculum modules.
  • Experience with LMS platforms, grading automation tools, and data-driven student success metrics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of common UC Berkeley academic policies and procedures.
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted full time salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $7,625 to $10,850 monthly ($91,500 to $130,200 annualized), prorated according to FTE. This is a part-time (50% FTE) Limited term appointment. (A Limited appointment is expected to be on pay status for less than 1,000 hours in a period of 12 consecutive months.) This position is FLSA Exempt and paid monthly.
