Custodial Foreperson I - Athletic Facilities
SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
Instructs and supervises personnel in the performance of cleaning and general maintenance. Trains, instructs, and schedules personnel in performing their duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Custodial Supervisor and the Manager of Custodial Services. Must be responsible and dependable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have attained an educational level sufficient to read, write, and perform simple computations.
Three to five years experience in building custodial services required. Experience in the selection of custodial supplies and supervision of personnel required.
Ability to work long hours while standing and to withstand the physical strain of cleaning work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the general security of the building assigned.
- Plans and schedules work for employees.
- Trains, instructs, supervises, and assists personnel in performing their duties.
- Checks inventory, orders, and makes recommendations on custodial supplies.
- Makes recommendations on building repairs and on custodial staff.
- Checks and locks all doors when leaving the building at the end of the shift.
- Some custodial positions may require operation of University vehicle.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- May sweep, mop, scrub, strip and polish floors and stairs.
- May vacuum, clean rugs and carpets.
- May dust and/or clean furniture.
- May carry out and dispose of trash.
- May clean trash cans.
- May clean restroom fixtures, walls and floors, windows and glass doors.
- May clean blackboards and water fountains.
- May operate a blower to clear sidewalks.
- May change light bulbs.
- Serves as back up to other departmental staff when assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Knowledge of custodial materials and techniques required.
- Ability to supervise employees effectively in the performance of their assigned duties.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must possess working knowledge of various types of custodial machines and aids including, but not limited to, vacuums, buffers, and carpet cleaning machines.
- Must understand techniques of cleaning, waxing, etc., utilized in the maintenance of floors, wall surfaces, bathrooms, and other specific areas in classroom, office, and residence hall buildings on the university campus.
- Some custodial positions may require operating a University vehicle and if so it will be necessary for employee to possess a valid Texas driver’s license and qualify for university driver certification.
