Key Job Responsibilities:
- Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
- Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
- Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
- Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
- Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed

ABOUT THE JOB: CUSTODIAN
The UW-Stout Academic Custodial Team works to give students, staff, and visitors a great experience by keeping campus buildings clean and well-maintained. Custodial work follows best practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions (WIs). This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor and receives guidance and feedback from Custodial Leads and the Supervisor.
Typical shifts are:
- 1st Shift: 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- 2nd Shift: 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Depending on the shift, night and weekend differential pay may apply to a position.
- Night Differential (80 cents) - additional pay for all hours worked on a regularly scheduled shift during the period between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Weekend Differential (80 cents) - additional pay for all hours worked between 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and 12:00 Midnight Sunday
Core Job Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain assigned areas following Stout Cleaning Standards and schedules
- Learn and perform all processes and procedures for Restorative cleaning in your area
- Use, clean, and care for custodial equipment properly
- Keep supply areas and equipment organized
- Keep walkways clear of trash, snow, and ice
- Track supplies and request more to keep proper inventory levels
- Report vandalism, pest issues, and items in need of repair
- Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
- Work as a team with campus staff, co-workers, and supervisors
- Follow safety rules and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow SOPs and WIs for all tasks
- Provide quality service by working directly with students, staff, and visitors
- Be a helpful point of contact in the building
- Wear provided Facilities apparel and ID badge properly
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
Minimum
- Able to read English, speak, and talk with the public.
- Able to see clearly enough to read labels and identify objects up to 20 feet away in daylight.
- Willing to learn how to use cleaning products safely and correctly
- Willing to learn how to use, clean, and care for custodial equipment
- Willing to follow UW System, campus, and department work rules
- Willing to learn basic computer skills to fill out forms, read messages, and reply to emails
- Willing to carry and communicate using a company issued cell phone
- Open to giving and receiving feedback in a respectful and professional way
Physical Demands:
- Daily Tasks: Walking on flat and uneven surfaces, Standing, stooping, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, Using spray bottles, mops, and other hand tools, Reaching and wiping horizontal and vertical surfaces, Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming
- Regular Tasks: Climbing ladders to reach 10’ ceiling to clean and/or change light bulbs, Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. alone or more with a team, Kneeling and standing to clean or fix equipment, Working outside in all Wisconsin seasons

Custodial Services Skills (Required for All Custodial Staff)
- Customer Service (Building Relationships) Works alone and with others to meet cleaning goals. Responds quickly and respectfully. Communicates clearly and kindly with people from different backgrounds.
- Thinking and Learning Skills Uses tools like email, online forms, and SharePoint. Understands information, sees connections, and uses knowledge to improve work.
- Personal Responsibility Takes responsibility for actions. Brings a positive attitude. Accepts feedback, listens, and asks questions when unsure.
- Job Knowledge and Problem Solving Uses job skills to complete tasks. Thinks through problems, understands rules and different views, and makes smart choices. Acts professionally.
- Leadership Meets goals, plans ahead, makes decisions, and supports others in a respectful and encouraging way.

The minimum hourly rate for this position is $15.00/hour. A six-month probationary period is required.
