Cutaneous Oncology Site Director

The Department of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine seeks a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in cutaneous oncology/skin cancer to join the faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor in the Clinician Educator Line (rank commensurate with experience). This position will lead our expanding Dermatology service line in the East Bay. We are specifically interested in candidates with experience in an academic cancer center setting and a strong interest in leadership to serve as Site Director for Cutaneous Oncology at the Stanford Medicine Sutter Health Cancer Center (SMSHCC) in the East Bay. This position will involve multidisciplinary care of patients with melanoma, advanced keratinocyte carcinomas, Merkel cell carcinoma, cutaneous lymphoma, and other primary cutaneous malignancies, partnering with the Stanford Cancer Center efforts in Palo Alto, San Jose, and Pleasanton. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Academic rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Program Overview

The successful candidate will lead the SMSHCC Cutaneous Oncology program in Oakland, providing a full-time, on-site presence to direct clinical program development for patients with melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, and Merkel cell carcinoma, while also providing supportive dermato-oncology care. The role is designed to expand access to specialized cutaneous oncology care in the East Bay while ensuring integration with Stanford’s core academic and clinical footprint.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Serve as the SMSHCC East Bay Cutaneous Oncology Site Director, leading program growth, clinical operations, and care pathway development to provide coordinated patient care among Stanford Cancer Center locations in the SF Bay Area
• Represent Stanford clinical quality and multidisciplinary standards at the SMSHCC East Bay site.
• Build and sustain strong collaboration with Dermatology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, and cancer center leadership.
• Support the development of SMSHCC-based multidisciplinary workflows.
• Collaborate with additional SMSHCC faculty recruits.
• Contribute to clinical quality improvement, care delivery innovation, and scholarship in cutaneous oncology care delivery.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide expert outpatient care for the evaluation and management of pigmented lesions and melanoma, with additional expertise in non-melanoma skin cancers, Merkel cell carcinoma, and supportive dermato-oncology.
• Maintain close coordination with subspecialty teams for complex cases.

Academic and Teaching Expectations

• Actively participate in clinical teaching and mentorship.
• Contribute to periodic didactic lectures, Grand Rounds, and departmental educational initiatives as needed.
• Actively participate in Stanford Cancer Center Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology virtual Tumor Boards.
• Participate (optional) in Stanford Cutaneous Lymphoma weekly CPC meetings and encouraged (optional) to participate in weekly Multidisciplinary Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinical Trials and Clinic Review meetings.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent degree
• Board certification in Dermatology
• Must obtain California medical licensure prior to start date
• Demonstrated expertise and excellence in cutaneous oncology/skin cancer
• Experience and/or demonstrated readiness for site leadership in an academic cancer center setting

Salary Range

The expected base pay range for this position is:

Clinical Associate Professor: $272,000-$290,000

Clinical Professor: $317,000-$357,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
