Job Summary:
This internship supports Meritās mission by partnering with the Information Security team to deliver best-in-class cybersecurity monitoring and alerting for our members. Youāll utilize our tools and open source intelligence to identify new probable vulnerabilities and threats for members on the Merit network and assist our SOC (Security Operations Center) team with reporting and hunting on those threats. This role builds experience in core cybersecurity concepts, technical analysis, team collaboration, and technical and management communication.
Responsibilities*
- Aid in providing actionable intelligence and response to protect Merit members from cyber attacks
- Review current and ongoing cyber threats affecting regional, national, and international entities
- Provide summaries and indicators of compromise to the Merit SOC team for threat hunting
- Assist in monitoring threat notifications and threat hunts for Merit members.
- Use scripting to effectively automate common tasks.

How You'll Grow
- Overall knowledge of the cybersecurity risk landscape as it exists today.
- Introduction to the foundational concepts of information security.
- Knowledge of how to scan and identify new cyber threats from a variety of different sources.
- Ability to analyze these threats in conjunction with the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) and Common Platform Enumeration (CPE) to accurately judge contextual risk.
- Usage of common cybersecurity analysis tools including malware and URL sandboxing.
- Prioritization of analysis efforts given multiple cyber threats.
- Effective communication of risk and impact to cybersecurity teams as well as management.
Modes of Work
Working hours must be on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 9am-5pm. This role will be supported as a hybrid work opportunity. In-office work days will be located at Merit's office at 880 Technology Dr. Suite B, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
This position is part of Meritās summer internship program, which runs from the week of June 15, 2026 through the week of August 21, 2026. Interns are expected to work up to 20 hours per week throughout the duration of the program. Work schedules will be established in alignment with team needs and intern availability.
