Job Summary
This full-time University of Colorado Staff Cytology Laboratory Assistant position in a busy clinical laboratory setting providing testing of gynecologic samples, body fluids, Fine Needle Aspirates and biopsies. pathologists, residents, fellows, clinicians, and various hospital personnel. This position requires following all federal, state, institutional and laboratory policies, and Standard Operation Procedures for methodologies used in processing specimens. Technician is expected to exercise sound independent judgment, while seeking appropriate guidance in solving non-routine problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving, accessioning and labeling of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens using Laboratory Information System
- Applying approved cytopreparation methods to process cytology specimens and sending out selected samples for ancillary testing
- Operating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and equipment and performing routine preventive maintenance
- Utilizing and maintaining cytology stains, reagents and chemicals, including their preparation, storage, and correct disposal.
- Maintaining, organizing stock inventory, and requesting laboratory supplies
- Providing support with various administrative tasks and handling phone inquiries
- Reporting patient safety issues and specimen deficiencies
- Participating in orientation of cytology residents and medical students in the subject of cytopreparation

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of laboratory experience in clinical setting
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate's degree or higher biology, natural sciences, or in a related field.
- Experience working with students, staff and faculty in a teaching hospital environment

Anticipated Pay Range
The starting salary range for this position has been established as $51,228 - $60,816.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
