UMKC is the urban law school of the University of Missouri System and is located on a beautifully landscaped campus in the Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City, Missouri. It is the only law school in a diverse and vibrant metropolitan area of more than two million people and offers courses leading to J.D., LL.M., or M.L.S. degrees for approximately 500 students. It benefits from its metropolitan location, a university with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, a dedicated faculty and staff, and strong community and alumni support.
Job Description
This position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and submitting comprehensive institutional data to various entities. These entities include accreditation bodies (such as the American Bar Association, Missouri and Kansas Supreme Courts, Higher Learning Commission, university, state of Missouri regulators, and other governing associations), academic-ranking publications (such as US News, Princeton Review and the National Jurist), and other entities. This position provides essential financial and administrative support by monitoring supply purchases, reviewing and approving purchasing card transactions, and processing travel and reimbursement requests.
Job Responsibilities
- Gather and validate data on admissions, enrollment trends, tuition and fees, cost of attendance, course curriculum, and student-to-faculty ratios.
- Maintain organized and accurate datasets to support internal reporting and external submissions. The external submissions include reports to publications that rank law schools, including U.S. News & World Reports and The National Jurist, as well as bodies that accredit law schools and provide licensure to attorneys, such as the American Bar Association and the Missouri Bar/Missouri Supreme Court.
- Prepare and submit required information to academic magazines, ranking publications, accreditation agencies, and other governing associations.
- Collaborate with internal departments-including Admissions, Finance, Academic Affairs, and Institutional Research-to verify reported information.
- Work closely with program leadership to update curriculum and academic program data. This position will work with various departments within the law school, and data generated by this person will assist leaders in the areas that include Student Services and Curriculum & Assessment to determine whether changes should be made to the Juris Doctorate and/or Master's in Legal Studies programs. For example, if the data show that graduates are failing the bar exam at an alarming rate, then Curriculum & Assessment may investigate whether changes should be made to the program requirements for the J.D. degree to better prepare students for the bar exam.
- Purchase basic supplies, review and approve credit card receipts, and process travel and reimbursement submissions.
