Position Summary

Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Studies

The Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Studies (EHSS) will be an innovative leader who can provide strategic vision and direction for the college. Serving as the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the college, the Dean sets long-term goals for academic excellence and operational effectiveness, working closely with faculty, staff, and students to cultivate a collaborative environment. The Dean champions innovation in teaching, research, and community engagement, while also fostering partnerships within and beyond the university. The Dean will be someone who takes an entrepreneurial approach to the development of new academic programs and the delivery of existing programs, with a strong focus on experiential learning. The Dean ensures the college's programs and initiatives align with both college and broader institutional priorities, positioning the college to adapt successfully to changes in education, health, and human services sectors.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Studies

The college is comprised of seven departments: Child and Family Studies; Communication Disorders; Elementary, Early, and Special Education; Allied Health, Kinesiology, and Sports Sciences; Leadership, Middle, and Secondary Education; Nursing; and Psychology and Counseling. Within the college, approximately 150 faculty and staff members provide instruction, supervision, and service to nearly 1,800 undergraduate majors and around 480 graduate students. The college's programs emphasize a combination of classroom learning and practical field experience. Additionally, the College encompasses five professional centers: the Edvolution Center, Autism Center, Center for Speech and Hearing, University School for Young Children, and the Lift for Life Academy charter school.

The programs within the College of EHHS hold several specialized accreditations and designations, including being an Apple Distinguished School. Accreditations include the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND); American Speech-Language-Hearing Association/Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA-ASHA); Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE); Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); Commission on Sports Management Accreditation (COSMA); Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP); Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP); Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (NRPA/COAPRT); Missouri State Board of Nursing; National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); National Council on Family Relations/Certified Family Life Educator (NCFR/CFLE); Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC). Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D, Ed.D, or relevant clinically based doctorate) in an education, health, psychological, or related field that is represented in one of the academic departments in the college from a regionally accredited university or internationally accredited/government-certified university
  • Record of accomplishment consistent with appointment as a tenured, full professor in one of the departments in the college
  • Distinguished teaching experience and a record of scholarly achievement
  • Significant administrative and leadership experience, including experience in program accreditation and assessment
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of collegiality and shared governance
  • Evidence of the ability to maintain and strengthen ties with educational, social service, and health-related communities
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire external resources through fundraising, grants, and contracts
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing and strategically using budgets
  • Strong background in advocacy for a variety of stakeholders, including alumni, donors, students, faculty, and staff
