Job Description
Glendale Community College seeks a leader who is dedicated to all aspects of student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Dean, Continuing Education position. Definition
Under executive direction, plans, directs, and administers non-credit academic and student support operations and activities for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs including workforce planning, and adult basic education; directs and oversees operations of assigned campus and associated facilities; oversees the development of instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs and; performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Instructional Services.
Supervises lower-level managers, faculty, classified staff, temporary, and/or student employees.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, directs, and administers non-credit academic and student support operations and activities for multiple departments, divisions, and/or programs including workforce planning, and adult basic education.
- Directs and oversees operations of assigned campus and associated facilities; works with the facilities and police departments to coordinate and manage building functions, safety, security, maintenance, and administration; ensures that the facility-related needs of employees are met and problems are resolved.
- Oversees the development of instructional materials and resources in support of classes and programs.
- Oversees instructional planning, enrollment management, curriculum development, curriculum review, student learning outcome analysis, and program and course review for assigned academic divisions.
- Oversees the implementation of effective strategies for teaching and learning technologies and methodologies in assigned programs; provides recommendations and makes decisions based on assessment of data and learning outcomes.
- Handles and resolves conflicts and issues and reports complaints as appropriate.
- Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment.
- Directs and oversees outreach and marketing efforts for non-credit programs.
- Develops, implements, establishes, and maintains policies, processes, and procedures for applicable departments; monitors and evaluates operational, department, and service quality; may recommend, develop, and implement quality improvement assessment tools and/or methods with administration and/or regulatory agencies.
- Directs and/or conducts surveys and special studies; maintains program statistics.
- Develops, directs, and implements short- and long-term strategies and plans.
- Reviews, administers, and monitors budgets for assigned areas which may include grant and special program budgets; approves and administers budget allocations and procurements for all assigned funds as appropriate; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data.
- Coordinates and oversees the implementation and modification of technology.
- Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee's work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection.
- Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance.
- Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports.
- May submit grant proposals for additional outside funds and resources.
- May participate and/or chair campus committees and task forces.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Five (5) years of academic management experience.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:
- Mobility: frequent walking and sitting for long periods; occasional kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and standing; frequent reaching above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: frequent fine manipulation sufficient to operate a computer keyboard; frequent grasping to handle individual papers, write and take notes, and feel individual objects.
- Lifting/Carrying: frequent lifting/carrying of papers, files, equipment, and materials weighing up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Visual Requirements: frequent use of vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens, and do close-up work.
- Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and speaking in person and on the telephone.
- Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent contact with others, including public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is typically performed in an indoor office or similar setting.
Salary
Starting salary: Step 1 $11,150 to Step 6 $14,233 monthly, depending upon education and experience.
Salary range: Step 1 $11,150 to Step 11 $18,676 monthly (including longevity steps).
