Position Summary:

The Dean of General Education and Transfer, reporting to the Academic Vice President, provides strategic leadership for the colleges transfer programs, including the associate in arts, AA and AS in Teacher Preparation, associate in engineering, associate in fine arts, and associate in science. This role manages a multi-million-dollar budget, Program Chairs across multiple campuses, and plays a central part in planning, constructing, and programming new educational facilities. The Dean is an experienced academic leader with at least five years of service as a dean, executive director, or program chair, and brings a strong background in program development, innovation, and faculty hiring, credentialing, and evaluation.

The position requires active engagement in local and statewide transfer initiatives and close collaboration with four‑year colleges and universities. The Dean leads the implementation of general education learning outcomes collegewide, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence as a required competency for all graduates. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, community, and statewide engagement, and demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution. As a key member of the academic administration, the Dean must possess appropriate academic preparation, a proven record of community college program management, and a history of effective leadership of faculty and staff.

Required Education/Experience:
  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • Candidates should have 5+ years experience teaching at the community college level.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in transfer disciplines and programs.
  • Have experience in courses, curriculum, and program development at the local and state level, and across all delivery modalities.
  • Candidates should have 3+ years experience hiring, credentialing and leading faculty.
  • Experience with local and state policies and trends pertaining to transfer in higher education.
  • Understand and support the implementation of Artificial Intelligence as a graduation learning outcome.

Duty and Responsibility: Leadership
  • Facilitate strategic planning and supervise the preparation of the Colleges educational master plan for areas of responsibility.
  • Primary person responsible for General Education Learning Outcomes as well as the departments program learning outcomes, and program reviews.
  • Primary point person for state performance measures in College Transfer Performance, English, and Math, as well as supporting performance measures in First-year Progression, Curriculum Student Completion,
  • Support college leadership in statewide transfer compliance efforts.
  • Plan, develop, and implement innovative programs to provide a rich and supportive student-learning environment across all delivery modalities.
  • Facilitate growth and improvement of the departments programs.
  • Assess community needs and develop partnerships and other collaborative relationships with business/industries, government agencies, high schools, college, universities, and other entities.
  • Lead faculty to conduct institutional research and evaluation of student outcomes.
  • Recommend initiatives to promote student success and continually improve the departments programs.
  • Represent the department at external and internal college functions and activities including participation in the colleges annual graduation ceremonies.
  • Administer program planning and enrollment management processes to meet student and community needs effectively and efficiently.
  • Align programs with the requirements of SACSCOC, programmatic accreditors, State or national certifications, and licensures.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with other divisions, departments, external agencies, and peer institutions.
  • Serve on chair, or co-chair advisory boards and/or committees as appropriate.
Duty and Responsibility: Performance
  • Lead chairs in preparing program evaluations and implementing evaluation recommendations.
  • Lead the evaluation of General Education Student Learning Outcomes and the departments program learning outcomes.
  • Ensure chairs adhere to faculty hiring, credentialing, evaluation, and scheduling/load requirements.
  • Lead chairs in meeting/exceeding transfer performance and state performance measures.
  • Encourage collaborative learning and ensure faculty are trained in state transfer policy and legislation.
  • Conduct special projects as requested by the Academic Vice President.
Duty and Responsibility: Administrative
  • Establish and maintain relationships with educational partners to create seamless transfer pathways and agreements for students.
  • Provide administrative support and direction to chairs, site administrators, staff, and others.
  • Manage the efforts of chairs in developing, coordinating, and evaluating all aspects of the curriculum program areas and courses.
  • Work with chairs in assignments of faculty, preparation of the College catalog, class schedules, and appropriate budgets.
  • Organize and conduct departmental meetings and facilitate advisory committee meetings.
  • Manage any daily operational issues, including addressing classroom scheduling conflicts, identifying, and submitting concerns to the necessary stakeholders. Cooperate in emergency operations drills, and coordinate with front desk, operations backup, emergency operations for campus coverage when away.
  • Ensure the college is following national, state, and local level educational program regulations and guidelines.
  • Recommend and implement policies and procedures.
Duty and Responsibility: Budget
  • Review, prepare and implement the departmental budget.
  • Recommend acquisition of new equipment and instructional materials.
  • Direct grant and resource development, management, and reporting processes.
  • Support and help implement technological advancement.
Duty and Responsibility: Personnel
  • Maintain a positive and professional climate among faculty and staff.
  • Support the Academic Vice President in the selection, credentialing, orientation, training, mentoring, and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty members.
  • Support the Academic Vice President in the resolution of student and personnel matters.
  • Conduct annual faculty performance evaluations in an effective manner.
  • Support appropriate professional development activities.
  • Assure compliance with the colleges policies and procedures.
  • Review and adjust instructional loads for all program areas relative to the current load benchmarks.
