Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Dean of Student Affairs for the Rockville Campus. This is an exempt, grade 37 position.

The Dean of Student Affairs serves as the Student Affairs administrator for the Rockville Campus, with collegewide responsibility for assigned areas of Student Affairs, including Collegewide Disability Support Services. Responsibilities include providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for student affairs operations and initiatives, supervising the Rockville Counseling and advising unit and Rockville Student Life, planning and implementing strategic goals/objectives/initiatives that promote student success and engagement, and providing leadership, oversight, guidance, and support on issues impacting student life, retention, and well-being. The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and ensures that communication, events, programs, and initiatives reflect the Colleges mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees, monitors, and coordinates all of Student Affairs services and activities, and complies with all College policies and procedures for the Rockville campus.
  • Provides direct leadership and supervision of Rockville Counseling and Advising and the Office of Student Life.
  • Plans, administers, and assesses strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives, as well as develops procedures for student affairs services.
  • Develops and implements a system for assessment of programs and operations to include processes for feedback and improvement; makes recommendations for improvements based on assessment on a regular basis.
  • Participates in task forces, committees, and councils. Works collaboratively with faculty, academic support, and student groups/organizations on current/proposed programs and services to facilitate and enhance services to students.
  • Effectively manage fiscal resources, including assigned budgets.
  • Provide leadership for student disciplinary process, Student Code of Conduct, and Behavioral Interventions Team (BIT).
  • Serve as an advocate for students.
  • In collaboration with Academic Affairs, promote an environment that enhances learning within and outside the classroom.
  • Schedules, assigns, inspects, and reviews work of assigned staff to ensure work is performed according to established standards, conducts performance evaluations, provides formal and informal coaching, and disciplinary action.
  • Conducts recruitment/interviewing and makes recommendations to hire.
  • In collaboration with the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, identifies, develops, and recommends professional development needs/opportunities, and coordinates/conducts training.
  • Conducts needs assessment and feasibility studies related to projects and initiatives.
  • Responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant collective bargaining agreements - ensuring employees are led, managed, and supervised in accordance with the relevant agreement, may be required to participate in employee and labor relations activities such as collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and discipline hearings, labor and management committees, and governance councils.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Masters or doctoral degree in higher education administration, community college leadership, student affairs/college student personnel or an academic field relevant to the assigned area.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Hiring Range: $114,539-$157,505 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $200,472 annually.
