Dean of the Faculty of Law
Job Summary
As an inspiring and connecting leader, you will contribute to the development of legal education and research. You serve as the figurehead of the faculty for students, staff, and the external world, chairing the faculty board which includes a vice-dean for research, a vice-dean for education, a director of operations, and a student assessor with advisory voice.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and organization of the faculty, including education, research, and impact.
- Establish the teaching and examination regulations.
- Oversee the execution of research programs and report to the university board while consulting with participatory bodies.
- Collaborate with vice-deans and the director of operations.
- Represent the faculty in the college of deans and contribute to university-wide strategic decisions, promoting inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration.
- Participate in the Council of Deans of Law Faculties in the Netherlands.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Be appointable as a professor in a relevant field of the faculty; being a professor is preferred.
- Have an excellent reputation and strong affinity with legal education and research.
- Possess extensive and relevant administrative experience, including at the university level.
- Be an initiative-taking, connecting, and decisive leader who values good relations with faculty participatory bodies.
- Ability to develop and implement a vision and strategy for the faculty.
- Build support through open communication, transparent roles, and respect for authorities.
- Foster academic leadership, promote a positive work and study environment with attention to workload, social safety, diversity, and inclusion.
- Maintain a network that enhances the faculty's external profile.
- Act as a role model, create internal support, and be a team player in university governance.
- Work collaboratively with the university board in the interest of the entire institution.

- Appointment for a period of 4 years with possibility of reappointment.
- Salary between €9517 and €12584 per month based on a 38-hour workweek, depending on education and experience.
