Department Chair & Professor, Civil and Urban Engineering

The Department of Civil and Urban Engineering (CUE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for the position of Department Chair and Professor of CUE, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026. We are looking for candidates with strong leadership and a forward-looking vision to guide the department toward the next level of innovation in research, education, and societal impact.

The department’s mission is to engage our students, faculty, and researchers to address the critical challenges to our natural and built environments through interdisciplinary education, systems thinking, and advanced research in a collaborative and inclusive environment. The department has 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, as well as 8 continuing-contract faculty.

The department’s research and teaching portfolio includes transportation, geotechnical, construction, environmental, and structural engineering, with emphasis on smart cities, resiliency, and sustainability. The department promotes a collaborative environment, with a number of faculty having joint appointments or affiliations with other NYU departments and schools.

The Department Chair is expected to shape the department's future, attract the finest faculty, identify areas for investment, pursue and strengthen cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary efforts in research and education, support the professional development of faculty and staff, and champion the work of the department.

Successful candidates should have a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline, have demonstrated outstanding professional and research achievements in their field, leadership experience, excellent collaborative, interpersonal, and communication skills, and have a passion for curricular innovation.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (for 9 months) for this position is $200,000 - $300,000 for the Chair & Professor rank.
