Department of Pathology - Director of Transfusion Services
The Department of Pathology, University of Maryland School of Medicine invites applicants for a full-time Clinical Pathology faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, to serve as Director of Transfusion Services. The successful applicant will have leadership experience, outstanding organizational and management skills, and an expansive view of the role of clinical pathology in patient care and hospital stewardship. Evidence of success in the academic setting, including teaching and publications, is required; external grant-funded research is desirable. Since the service is central to the coordination of patient care with several other departments, strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Subspecialty certification in Transfusion Medicine is required. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience. The salary range is 260K - 360K.
The UMMC transfusion service offers medical consultation on transfusion-related issues across a diverse patient population. The service oversees approximately 40,000 transfusions per year, supporting:
- The R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma hospital, which is both the highest volume trauma center and the only fully integrated shock trauma hospital in the United States. UMMC is an international leader in trauma research, patient care, and education.
- The NCI-designated Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- A high-volume organ transplant service.
- Complex care for alloimmunized sickle cell patients.
- Numerous multidisciplinary clinical trials and innovation projects.
