The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications to apply for a Teaching Associate position. Teaching associates are responsible for providing classroom and/or laboratory instruction, making assignments to students, preparing course materials, administering examinations, assessing student performance, tutoring students and determining course grades. TAs supporting an upper division physics classes will work with the faculty member teaching the class to determine the TA responsibilities.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications to apply for a Teaching Associate position. Teaching associates are responsible for providing classroom and/or laboratory instruction, making assignments to students, preparing course materials, administering examinations, assessing student performance, tutoring students and determining course grades. TAs supporting an upper division physics classes will work with the faculty member teaching the class to determine the TA responsibilities. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Department of Physics and Astronomy TAs will work with the laboratory coordinator/department chair to teach the labs using the appropriate lab manual, following the schedule determined by department.

TAs supporting an upper division physics and astronomy courses will work with the faculty member teaching the class to determine the TA responsibilities which may include supporting in-class activities, laboratory activities, grading, and other teaching-related tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Physics, Astronomy or closely related field.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in hand by time of appointment.
  • Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Physics and Astronomy Department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with minors in astronomy and applied physics, and an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Materials Science, which is associated with the Center for Advanced Functional Materials (https://materials.csusb.edu). With approximately 50 majors, the department semester and year-long physic courses for other STEM departments. The department oversees the administration and operation of the Murillo Family Observatory.
