The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin August 2026. The Department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with minors in astronomy and applied physics, and is currently in the planning stages for an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Materials Science, which is associated with the Center for Advanced Functional Materials (https://www.csusb.edu/center-advanced-functional-materials).
We welcome applications in all areas of research in physics. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching and conducting research in the areas of quantum, AMO, or materials sciences and can help support the masters degree program in materials science, as well as teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate physics courses.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin August 2026. ... We welcome applicants from all physics research areas, with a preference for candidates with research in the areas of quantum, AMO, or materials-related physics. Additional preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach across the full range of physics courses and develop applied physics and experimental physics coursework.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Physics, maintain a robust and ongoing research agenda, and mentor students at the undergraduate level. Candidates will be expected to maintain an active research program appropriate for an undergraduate institution that affords research opportunities for students. Depending on their background, the candidate may teach and advise students in research within the Materials Science M.S. program. The candidate will also academically advise students and perform career related service roles on and off campus for the department, college, university and professional societies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Physics or an equivalent degree in a closely related area by time of appointment. However, candidates with 'all but dissertation' (ABD) are considered as long as they are expected to complete the Ph.D. by the time of the appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates with research in the areas of quantum, AMO, or materials-related physics and who have experience teaching and conducting research with undergraduate students and could teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate physics courses and courses in our Material Science MS program. Preference will also be given to candidates who are able to teach within and expand the applied and experimental physics curriculum.
