Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a Digital Engagement and Communications Adviser to join our Digital Engagement and Communications team within Student and Scholarly Services | Te Kahu Tauira, to support our University Libraries and Student Hubs across the University.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced communications professional who enjoys working at both a strategic and hands-on level. You will play a key role in shaping how students and staff experience our services by delivering clear, engaging, purposeful communications and content through established digital and communications channels.
In addition to core digital engagement and communications responsibilities, this role holds a significant portfolio, leading, coordinating and promoting our:
- Learning and Teaching communications
- Undergraduate student communications
- Orientation communications
- Spaces and facilities communications
- As well serving as our team’s communications planning lead
Your work will help ensure the right messages reach the right audiences at the right time — supporting student success, discoverability of services, and a cohesive experience across the University.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, fixed-term role for 12 months. The salary range for this role is $87,000 - $102,900 depending on experience and qualifications.

Ngā mahi matua | What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will:
- Lead and deliver high-quality digital engagement and communications activities across multiple portfolios
- Develop and implement targeted communications strategies and plans aligned to divisional priorities
- Serve as the communications planning lead, coordinating our team’s annual communications planning process and weekly communications planning meetings to deliver high-quality communications and content across learning, teaching, student lifecycle and service spaces
- Create, edit and manage web and intranet content using the University CMS
- Coordinate and deliver social media activity in line with University strategy
- Produce engaging content across channels, including web, newsletters and social media
- Use analytics and insights to continuously improve engagement and effectiveness
- Work closely with stakeholders across Libraries, Student Hubs and central teams to ensure communications and content are accurate, accessible and student-focused
- Contribute to strategic projects while supporting business-as-usual communications delivery

You are a confident, organised and collaborative communications professional who enjoys working with diverse stakeholders and balancing multiple priorities. You will bring:
- Experience delivering strategic communications and digital engagement activities in a complex organisation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
- Proven stakeholder management and relationship-building capability
- Experience working with web CMS platforms, digital content and social media strategy
- Strong planning and project management skills
- A user-centred approach and interest in improving student experiences
- Ideally, you will also have a strong curiosity to uncover and tell inspiring, engaging stories
Experience in the tertiary sector or a large organisation is advantageous but not essential.
