Director for Latin American & Multicultural Affairs (DI26001)
Job Description
The primary purpose of this position is to develop and maintain programs that enhance Minnesota State Mankato’s ability to recruit, retain and graduate underrepresented students, specifically Latin American students, working in collaboration with community organizations, faculty, staff, students and administrators. This position also creates services that enrich the learning environment for all students at Minnesota State Mankato by offering programs and activities that reflect the history and culture of Latin American people specifically placing emphasis on new immigrants, first-generation and non-traditional students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of two years (2) experience in program development, recruitment, retention, and support activities for Latin American and underrepresented students in higher education, non-profit agencies, community organizations, public school districts, or governmental units.
Preferred Qualification
- Master’s Degree.
- Background working with Latin American students in higher education.
- Experience assisting in developing social-cultural programs with emphasis on students of color.
- Experience creating and maintaining reports to state-federal agencies or private for/non-profit organizations.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience using multicultural and interpersonal skills to work effectively across cultures.
- Commitment to all issues of diversity, oppression, and multiculturalism.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Other Requirements
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
This position requires a valid, applicable driver’s license, as well as DVS records check with an acceptable rating.
This position requires a passing background check under Minnesota Statutes 299C.66 to 299C.71 – Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check Act. It is expected that the employee maintains the ability to pass applicable background check through out employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to notify the supervisor no later than the beginning of your next shift of any charges, allegations, convictions that may impact their standing under the applicable background check.
This position will require some flexibility to work weekend and evening hours.
This position will require occasional overnight travel associated with recruitment, conferences, workshop, and presentations. Flexible schedule to adjust to program responsibilities.
Minimal lifting requirements (ability to carry equipment and recruitment materials).
Telework Based on the essential functions of this positions, MMB Policy #1422, and University policies relating to flexible work, this position is eligible for the following work modes: Telework: Up to 20% of the time. A position with a work arrangement that allows an employee to perform work on a regular basis at a telework location that is not the employee’s permanent/principal work location.
