The Director for Residential Life oversees the daily operations of the residence hall including coordinating with Facilities on maintenance, training/supervising student employee staff, and holding residents accountable to the Student Housing policies.
This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct & Student Life.
The salary range for this position is $77,946.00-$86,159.00.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a respectful community environment, promote safety, and enhance personal growth, development, and maturity of the students residing in College housing;
- Supervise and lead Student Housing staff, including recruitment, selection, training, workload management, performance evaluation, leave authorization, discipline, and conflict resolution, while fostering open communication;
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, documents, forms, and processes for resident conduct, rental agreements, reservation, and assignments and documentation as required for the efficient and effective operation of the residential community;
- Coordinate student check-in and check-out procedures, room changes, damage assessment charges, and enlist means to correct;
- Provide support for student residents in conflict or crisis through mediation, referral to the Counseling & Advising Department, CBC’s Student Behavioral Intervention Team (SBIT), administrative intervention, or other referrals;
- Respond to emergencies and crisis situations in a timely manner, to assist and support students and staff; coordinate and evaluate all emergency/crisis response as appropriate; provide timely information and communication in emergency situations;
- Work closely in regular communication with Title IX Coordinator, Building Maintenance, Custodial Provider(s), Enrollment Management, Student Activities Student Recruitment, and Student Records to ensure students have a positive/safe living environment;
- Effectively communicate input of the Residential Life staff to the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct & Student Life;
- Oversee the department petition process and ensure prompt follow-up with students, parents, faculty, and others providing timely resolutions of problems and concerns in manner consistent with department policies, goals, and mission;
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, regulations, and guidelines to include Title IX, ADA, FHA, and OCR;
- Fulfill on-call duty on a rotating basis with the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct & Student Life and other assigned professional staff members; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, Adult Development, Counseling, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
- Three (3) years of experience in Residential Life program, administration and management;
- Experience and commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations; and
- Experience with budget management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with academic initiatives in a residential setting/programs at a college or university;
- Demonstrated knowledge of college student development theory and practice;
- Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, and group dynamics;
- Experience with program development and assessment; and
- Demonstrated success in cultivating relationships and expertise creating collaborative partnerships with staff, faculty, students, parents, and college stakeholder groups.
