Director, Highlander Union Building (HUB Operations)
Position Information:
The Director of the Highlander Union Building (HUB) is responsible for the direct management and fiscal oversight of the HUB. The HUB's mission is to enhance the educational, recreational and social experiences of the campus community. The HUB offers 160,000 square feet of programming, event, office, dining and outdoor spaces. This includes the facilities management of Costo Hall and the Student Success Center. The HUB Director will have direct oversight of the policies and procedures associated with managing the Highlander Union, including facilities, event policies, strategic planning, programming and capital projects. In addition to direct oversight of the Highlander Union, the incumbent will liaison with other critical campus departments including Student Affairs, Auxiliary Services, Facilities Services, Campus Safety, Risk Management, Environmental Health & Safety as well as the offices associated with the VC of Health, Well-Being and Safety. The HUB Director will also manage free speech and expressive activity in association with the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs office.
The full salary range for the Director, Highlander Union Building (HUB Operations) is $84,100.00 - $154,700.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $119,400.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
Requirements:
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
- Advanced degree in related area. Preferred
Experience Requirements
- 8 - 13 years of related experience. Required
- Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred
License Requirements
- Valid Driver License. Preferred
Special Conditions
- Ability to participate in occasional nights and weekend events. Required
- Must possess or obtain a valid CA Drivers license in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required
- Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours) Required
- Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours Required
Minimum Requirements
- Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
- Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
- Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
- Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership, and intercultural competence.
- Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
- Ability to respond to protests and other free speech activities planned or spontaneous.
- Ability to facilitate free speech training in collaboration with other university administrators for a variety of audiences.
- Knowledge of the purpose of the Office of the Dean of Students and the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Office. Director plays an integral role in planning for staff and student development as well as responding to critical issues as they emerge.
- Ability to facilitate strategic planning and assessment for the Highlander Student Union
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
- Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
- Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.
- Intercultural competence.
- Experience in management of food service vendor contracts at college/university.
- Experience in management of student union facilities.
- Understanding of best practices in facilities management
- Knowledge of student engagement principles and ability to work collaboratively with student leaders, including the HUB Governing Board and Associated Students of UCR.
