Job Description:
The Director of Admissions will report to the Executive Director of Operations for SU Global. This position is responsible for the overall recruitment, selection, and matriculation of online undergraduate and graduate Syracuse University students. The Director will be an innovative and thoughtful leader who will bring a creative and data-informed perspective to form a cohesive, integrated and collaborative admissions and funnel management function.
Serving as the admissions, recruitment, and funnel management subject matter expert for SU Global, the Director will play a critical role in the universitys future by collaborating with Syracuse Universitys schools and colleges to attract a diverse, talented and engaged online student population locally, nationally, and internationally. The position demands exceptional flexibility and adaptability to serve students across time zones, accommodate diverse cultural perspectives and learning needs, and maintain an in-person presence on campus to ensure accessible, responsive support.
Syracuse University is building something new. Were launching SU Global to reimagine how we support and scale accessible online pathways for non-traditional learners, in a dynamic, innovative, and data-driven environment. That means rethinking how we work.
This role requires on-campus presence because the best ideas emerge from real-time collaboration, the mentorship that happens in hallways, and the spontaneous problem-solving that defines startup culture. Youll work non-traditional hours when needed - evening and weekend coverage, whatever it takes to deliver the best-in-class experience.
Were looking for team members who thrive in:
- High-energy, in-person environments where innovation happens face-to-face
- Flexible scheduling that follows student needs, not the clock
- Startup intensity within a world-class university structure
Were not looking for people who want a job. Were looking for builders who want a mission.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
- Five or more years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education or related field required.
- Experience in higher education in admissions or student services.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and technology skills are required.
- The ability to work with a diverse team effectively and handle multiple projects with strict adherence to deadlines.
- Must be able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment and manage others to do the same.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Breadth and depth of experience in enrollment management, strong business judgment and decision-making skills, a strong capability of working with data and analytics, the ability to work and interact in a transparent manner, and the ability to lead and manage are essential to success in this position.
- Previous admissions operations and management experience or related program or relevant corporate experience in marketing, operations, or a related field.
- Experience integrating across programs and building organizational structure to deliver an outstanding, student-centric experience
- An appreciation for online education
- Experience managing the relationship with external admissions and lead cultivation partners; and proficiency with admissions technology platforms.
Work Environment and Availability:
- Required to maintain regular in-person presence on campus to ensure accessibility and responsive support
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules and major campus events, especially during start-up
- Ability to adapt work hours to meet the needs of students in different time zones when necessary
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for all students regardless of background or circumstance
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of a strategic lead cultivation plan for the enrollment of high quality & diverse adult learners across a portfolio of online undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Operations to identify/maintain lead cultivation collaborations and synergies and help define a competitive and unique market position for Syracuse Universitys online programs.
- Work in close collaboration with the Director of Advising & Student Success to ensure a seamless student experience from inquiry to admission to enrollment.
- Assist in the oversight of agency partnerships to amplify lead cultivation and funnel management efforts.
- Employ a data-driven approach to analyze the online education market and recommend appropriate courses of action to the Executive Director and SU Global leadership.
- Lead collaboration with university communications teams to develop appropriate web and social media content and print material as necessary.
- Work directly with the schools and colleges to develop eligibility standards, admissions criteria, and Financial Aid/Scholarship parameters in line with strategic and financial goals for online programs.
- Oversee evaluation of applicants based on academic background, test scores, professional experience, career goals and other attributes; plan candidate interview/consultation process to assess focus, preparedness, and communication skills in line with the expectations of the program; coordinate recommendations of admissions actions.
- Oversee funnel management data and summarize reports for internal and external audiences to include all conversion points of the admissions funnel.
- Manage the CRM process, including filter and query development, database management, strategic dashboards for KPI identification, and identifying technologies to increase process efficiency.
- Lead collaboration with the Online Student Success team to ensure overall enrollment system performance.
