Job Summary:
The Director of AMC Clinical Operations, Quality and Strategy is the leader within the Division of Cardiology responsible for clinical programs and metrics at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Working closely with School of Medicine and UCHealth partners, and reporting to the Chief of Cardiology, the Director builds and optimizes clinical programs and advances divisional strategy. Core duties include serving as the Medical Director for the Heart and Vascular Center, program development, identification and implementation of operational efficiencies for integrated care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Operations, Access & Experience
- Serve as Medical Director for the Heart and Vascular Center
- Serve as liaison between Cardiology and UCHealth operations, quality, safety, nursing; partner closely with Medical Directors and hospital Clinical Directors.
- Champion patient, staff, and provider experience and a just-culture; implement feedback loops and rapid-cycle improvement.
- Quality, Safety & Outcomes
- Co-develop and track annual Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) aligned with UCHealth priorities (mortality, complications/HAIs, readmissions, PROs, CG-CAHPS).
- Lead QI projects and oversee registry participation (e.g., NCDR, GWTG, TVT/STS), ensuring reliable data capture and learning.
- Workforce Development & Professionalism
- Partner with the Division Head and Section Heads, and UCHealth leadership to set and achieve strategic recruitment goals (physicians and APPs) across campus and affiliates.
- Finance, Strategy & Growth
- With the administrative system dyad partner, lead business planning for new programs and; monitor RVUs, room/slot utilization, cost stewardship.
- Governance, Committees & Communications
- Serve on division/department/hospital/service-line committees and initiatives as requested by the Division Head.
- Performance Management, Milestones & Evaluation
- Participate in setting quarterly goals with the Division Head, Vice Chief and administrative dyad; review OKRs/metrics quarterly and iterate via PDSA
Key Relationships:
- Division Leadership: Division Head/Chief; Division Vice Chiefs; Divisional Administrative Director.
- Section & Program Leaders: AHFTx, Interventional/Structural, EP, Imaging, Prevention/Lipid, Vascular Medicine, Cardio-Oncology, Cardio-Obstetrics, Sports Cardiology, HCM/Inherited CM, Genetics, APPs.
- Hospital & Service Line Leadership: UCHA CMO, ACMOs, CQO, COO; CT Surgery; Anesthesia; Radiology; ED; Hospital Medicine; Pulmonary and ICUs; Pharmacy; Nursing; UCHealth Cardiovascular Service Line.
- External Stakeholders: Referring providers, registry collaboratives (NCDR, STS/TVT, UNOS/ISHLT), payers/regulators where appropriate.
Work Location: Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently appointed or able to be appointed to the University of Colorado School of Medicine faculty
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado
- Ability to obtain prescriptive authority (DEA License)
- Minimum of five years' experience, including leadership and operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Professor or Professor preferred, and on track for promotion
- Previous Section Head or similar role with demonstrated leadership ability
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution; outstanding customer service skills
- Highly analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
- Innovative problem-solver who can generate workable solutions and resolve complaints
- Attention to detail, responsive, and timely

Anticipated Pay Range: HIRING RANGE: $230,000-$235,000
There is 0.30 FTE of protected time for this position. Additionally, the Director of AMC Clinical Operations, Quality and Strategy may also combine the role with other roles that naturally fit the applicant's experience and Divisional needs (e.g., Director of Quality and Patient Safety 0.10 FTE).
