Job Description

This position helps to recruit and retain Asian American students and diverse students at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Director of Asian American and Multicultural Affairs serves as a point person on issues and concerns, coordinates programs, provides direct services and executes events for students of color.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of two years (2) experience working with community-based organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Background working with Asian American students in higher education.
  • Experience assisting in developing social-cultural programs with emphasis on students of color.
  • Experience creating and maintaining reports.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using multicultural and interpersonal skills to work effectively across cultures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Other Requirements

Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

This position requires a valid, applicable driver’s license, as well as DVS records check with an acceptable rating.

This position requires a passing background check under Minnesota Statutes 299C.66 to 299C.71 – Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check Act. It is expected that the employee maintains the ability to pass applicable background check through out employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to notify the supervisor no later than the beginning of your next shift of any charges, allegations, convictions that may impact their standing under the applicable background check.

Minimal lifting requirements (ability to carry equipment and recruitment materials).

Telework Based on the essential functions of this positions, MMB Policy #1422, and University policies relating to flexible work, this position is eligible for the following work modes: Telework: Up to 20% of the time. A position with a work arrangement that allows an employee to perform work on a regular basis at a telework location that is not the employee’s permanent/principal work location.
