Lycoming College is hiring a Director of Athletics. The Director of Athletics is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to all of Lycoming College’s intercollegiate athletic programs as an NCAA Division III institution. The Director reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs & Success, emphasizing recruitment and development of student-athletes, compliance with NCAA regulations and Title IX, strategic oversight of coaches and programs, fundraising, and integration with the campus community.

What will I do in this role?

  • Strategic Leadership and Program Administration: Provide visionary leadership, develop and implement a strategic plan aligned with institutional goals, administer programs within NCAA Division III guidelines, and explore adding programs to support enrollment goals.
  • Recruitment and Student-Athlete Development: Oversee recruitment of diverse student-athletes, promote academic fit, personal growth, and welfare through academic support and leadership training.
  • Supervision and Personnel Management: Supervise coaching staff, recruit and mentor personnel, promote professional development, and balance academics with athletics to support graduation and campus engagement.
  • Provide Competitive Opportunities and a Culture of Success: Advocate for high-quality athletic experiences, commit to excellence in sports and academics, and aim for championships.
  • Fundraising and Resource Development: Lead fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation and partnerships, to enhance facilities and budgets.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with NCAA rules, Title IX, and policies; conduct audits and manage risk through medical care and injury prevention.
  • Facility Oversight and Use Maximization: Manage athletic facilities efficiently, create revenue opportunities, and collaborate with administration.
  • Budget and Operations Management: Prepare and monitor budgets, arrange schedules and travel, and oversee equipment maintenance.
  • Integration into Campus Life: Foster collaboration with academic and student life initiatives to enhance engagement and retention.
  • Public Relations and Community Engagement: Represent the department in media and events, build relationships with alumni, and promote programs to enhance reputation.

What are we looking for?

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree in sports administration or related field is preferred.

Experience/Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years in college-level coaching or administration, preferably NCAA Division III; proven fundraising success; knowledge of NCAA compliance and Title IX; ability to foster inclusive environments; valid driver’s license.

A successful candidate will have exceptional communication, organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills, with expertise in strategic planning and recruitment.
