Director of Community Standards - Dean of Students
JOB DETAILS
SUMMARY
This is a managerial position responsible for advancing the mission of the Office of Student Conduct. Responsible for overseeing assigned functions including student conduct, alcohol and other drug programs, and compliance and discipline matters related to student clubs and organizations such as Greek Life, sports clubs, and other university-recognized groups. Responsible for coordinating and managing a range of programs and services designed to help students achieve both their personal and academic goals. Responsible for serving as a non-clinical case manager and providing guidance and support to students navigating complex situations while ensuring the university’s standards of conduct are upheld. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a related field is required.
Five years of related experience, including student conduct and case management work, is required. Experience in a student affairs setting at an institution of higher education is required. Supervisory experience is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership and oversight for the student conduct process and alcohol and other drug education programs within the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Manages and delegates case management responsibilities in close collaboration with campus partners while maintaining an active case load.
- Develops, implements, and assesses alcohol and other drug initiatives.
- Trains and monitors work of hearing officers, including those in Residence Life, to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Oversees all aspects of the Student Conduct Hearing Board and its adjudication of cases.
- Reviews and evaluates incident reports and referrals to determine appropriate actions in accordance with university standards.
- Maintains and enhances case management and reporting systems, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
- Delivers campus-wide training on responding to students of concern and students in crisis.
- Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.
- Serves on Behavioral Intervention Team and serves as designated back-up and chair in the absence of the Dean of Students.
- Manages the student absence notification process and related communication systems.
- Collaborates with campus partners to coordinate referrals and follow-up for student support cases.
- Engages in systematic research and assessment to identify trends in non-clinical case management.
- Remains current on legal, regulatory, and trending issues in higher education and their relevance to campus student case management.
- Recommends revisions to appropriate university policies as necessary to remain consistent with federal and state law, university policy, and national benchmarking standards.
- Conducts assessments to target improvements to program effectiveness.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with special projects and assignments as needed.
- Chairs and serves on various campus committees related to student engagement and success.
- Develops, maintains, and enforces departmental procedures and policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other.
- Ability to train and supervise others.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
