General purpose:
Working collaboratively with Academic Affairs leadership, the Director will provide vision and subject matter expertise to advance the Colleges global education initiatives. The Director leads the design, implementation, and assessment of study abroad and study away programs, supports faculty and student exchange partnerships, and ensures alignment with institutional academic priorities.
The Director oversees the Global Education office, guiding its programming, operations, and student support services. This includes developing inclusive and accessible global learning opportunities for all students and faculty, with particular attention to English Language Learners and international students.
The role ensures compliance with academic policies and international partnership standards while fostering innovative, mission-aligned global engagement opportunities that enhance the student experience. Applications received before March 16, 2026 are best assured of receiving full consideration.
Summary of Essential Functions:
- Develop, maintain, and assess a comprehensive strategy for global education including MICAs portfolio of study abroad and study away programs and partnerships, with a key focus on budget and compliance.
- Assist the Provost leadership team to pursue the College's global engagement and curricular efforts to ensure relevance in contemporary global art and design and the creative economy.
- Collaborate with the Provost leadership to provide professional development for staff and faculty to support a globally focused campus.
- Support the matrixed approach to student success by providing curricular innovation support, engagement across student services, and recommendations and insights to College leadership.
- Manage key personnel to ensure Colleges compliance and programming for the international community at MICA as well as global cultural engagement for all students, staff and faculty.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and assess MICAs portfolio of study abroad study away programs and partnerships, with a key focus on budget and compliance. Collaborate with the Provost's Office and faculty members to research, propose, and develop new programs and partnerships with art and design schools and affiliate organizations; develop strategies to promote the value of a globally focused education.
- In collaboration with the appropriate offices, pursue, manage, and assess external grant and scholarship opportunities for study abroad and global exchanges.
- Oversee risk assessment and crisis management resources for all study abroad programs and international students; review all programs on a regular basis to ensure quality control and implement best practices and policies, including appropriate risk management and liability protection; serve as the emergency management point person for all study abroad, study away and exchange programs at MICA.
- Oversee College compliance with Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations by advising updates to institutional policies and procedures, and briefing campus offices on compliance, as necessary. Serve as a Designated School Officer (DSO) and provide direction and support to Associate Director.
- Work collaboratively with academic program directors regarding faculty exchange and joint projects abroad, as well as to identify and promote participation in global professional development opportunities.
- Create and manage assessment plans, activities, and reports. Compile and write an annual report for the Global Education Office.
- Develop and manage budgets for the office.
- Develop annual goals with members of the Office staff and offer professional development guidance and support.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Global education models, including study abroad, study away, exchange partnerships, and international academic collaboration.
- Curriculum development and integration of global learning within academic programs.
- Risk management principles related to international travel and off-campus programming.
- Federal regulations affecting international students (e.g., visa considerations, SEVIS compliance) and institutional academic policies.
- Best practices for supporting English Language Learners and international students.
- Partnership development and international agreements (MOUs).
- Budget development and fiscal oversight for program operations.
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in global programming
- Demonstrated understanding of international student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment management practices, as well as applicable federal and international laws and regulations.

Minimum qualifications:
- Masters degree in international education or related field
- Demonstrated experience in the field of global education and a record of successful leadership and management
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, implementation, and support
- Intercultural experiences, particularly as reflected in study, research, living, or working abroad
- Demonstrated professional involvement in the field of international education (participation & presentations at conferences like NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, AIEA, CIEE, etc).
- Demonstrated record of support for, and commitment to, the needs of a diverse population and the principles of equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful completion of NAFSA learning and training programs
- Demonstrated experience with grant proposals and management of external funding for international education
- Evidence of networking and cultivation of relationships in development and/or implementation of global initiatives in higher education
- Multilingual, with an understanding of language pedagogy and multicultural educational approaches
- An appreciation for art and design

Salary: Commensurate with experience with a range from ($76,100 - $98,900)
