Director of Nursing Programs

Job Summary

The incumbent provides administrative leadership and operational management for the Nursing Programs, including Professional Nursing, Practical Nursing, and the LPN-to-ADN Bridge Program.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff and faculty, to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Assists in developing strategy, processes, and procedures for assigned programs, departments, or functional areas; and manages and participates in directing the implementation of internal operations for academic development programs, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; coordinating activities between multiple service areas; and working to integrate and coordinate service areas.
  • Serves as a liaison and primary contact for an assigned area to facilitate program and departmental public relations, communications, and outreach efforts; represents the department and/or College at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, and/or other related events.
  • Seeks and manages collaborative efforts with business and industry, community agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, internal departments, and/or other interested parties.
  • Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of complex and multi-faceted information, data, forms, schedules, calendars, surveys, reports, and other communications; makes recommendations based on findings; conducts research, needs assessment, and academic program development activities.
  • Manages budget and grants to ensure compliance with district policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Coordinates activities in order to facilitate the maximum effectiveness and utilization of academic development and/or program resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field to the assigned area*
  • Current active license to practice professional nursing in MO with no disciplinary actions in any state jurisdictions. OR be eligible to be licensed in MO if not part of the multi-state compact license (NCL).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of academic, career or technical management experience

*If the master's is not in nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree Nursing
  • Evidence of experience and/or skill in academic management, including assessment, faculty development, Nursing Accreditation
  • Evidence of experience and/or skill in budget and/or grant management
  • Experience in working with community and educational partners to develop mutually beneficial projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of management principles

  • Knowledge of public relations principles
  • Knowledge of community agencies and resources
  • Knowledge of academic development principles and practices

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws, rules, regulations and/or standards
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure development practices
  • Skilled in prioritizing and assigning work
  • Skilled in making programming decision based on financial considerations
  • Skilled in adapting to rapidly changing environments
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Skilled in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions and making recommendations in support of goals
  • Skilled in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skilled in providing customer service
  • Skilled in monitoring and evaluating programs
  • Skilled in collaborating with internal departments and external agencies
  • Skills in partnering with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and other sufficient to exchange or convey information

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking. The work is sedentary and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
