The University of Tennessee invites applications for the position of Director of Operations in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology and the UT Hearing and Speech Clinic. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership for both administrative and clinical functions, ensuring operational excellence and supporting the department’s educational and healthcare missions. The Director of Operations will also provide direct supervision, development, and evaluation of administrative support staff.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office, and be able to work efficiently and independently as well as leading team members through multiple projects with shifting priorities. Experience with grants management and healthcare billing is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Operations will:
- Direct all administrative operations activities for the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology.
- Prepare budgets, monitor expenditures, and provide monthly financial reports to the Chair and Program Directors.
- Oversee accounts payable, payroll, procurement, and travel expenditures.
- Manage contract receivables, invoicing, and account reconciliation.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to enhance clinical productivity and performance.
- Lead daily clinical operations with a focus on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and best practices.
- Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, and external partners to align operations with long-term goals.
- Develop and oversee quality assurance programs to advance patient care and clinical outcomes.
- Manage budgets involving private, state, and federal funding sources.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate administrative and billing staff to ensure effective support services.
- Implement technology and management solutions to improve workflows and operational efficiency.
- Negotiate contracts and manage credentialing with insurance providers and third-party payers.
- Serve as a responsive and professional liaison to faculty, staff, university personnel, and external partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Education, Business Administration, or a related field (transcript required).
Experience:
Five (5) years of progressive experience in healthcare, finance, higher education, or a related area; OR
Master’s degree and three (3) years of progressive experience in healthcare, finance, higher education, or a related area.
Work Schedule
This position may occasionally require evenings, weekends, or overnight travel.
