Director of Tax Compliance is responsible for directing and maintaining a comprehensive federal, state, and local tax compliance program. In addition, the Director will assist with coordination and management of the external audit process.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

  • Advises and assists with implementation of policies and procedures to promote compliance with tax laws.
  • Provides assistance in training and educating University departments to promote compliance with tax laws.
  • Monitors judicial and legislative developments to tax law and advises University departments accordingly.
  • Conducts tax research and provides tax analysis on tax-related matters.
  • Promotes awareness of tax compliance
  • Advises University departments on the preparation of tax-related forms, applications, returns, and supporting documentation.
  • Provides tax planning advice related to contract terms and/or conditions to mitigate adverse tax consequences in connection with future activities.
  • Serves as University liaison with tax authorities, external legal counsel, and consulting firms on tax-related matters.
  • Preparation of the annual 990-T tax return
  • Assist with the coordination and management of external audit activities, including coordinating communication between the external auditors and campus departments, tracking due dates, preparing required documentation, and assisting with audit-related submissions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax research, tax consulting, public accounting or tax return preparation, with emphasis on higher education or tax-exempt organizations preferred.
  • Familiar with primary and secondary tax law authority and general accounting practices.
  • Demonstrate capabilities in communication, consulting, and analytic skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and proactively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A certified public accountant or Master’s Degree in Accountancy with a Concentration in Taxation preferred.
  • Experience working as an auditor or experience working with external auditors including managing communication, preparing documentation requests, and responding to audit findings is preferred.
  • Work experience in higher education or tax-exempt organizations preferred.
