Advertised Job Summary

To serve as IACUC Coordinator by providing administrative support associated with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Manages the IACUC review process and participates in university activities related to the overall animal research program and its various components. Individual will work under the supervision of the IACUC Administrator. Assists the Administrator by carrying out regulatory compliance and monitoring activities related to animal research at the University. To demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations related to vertebrate animal research. Some overnight travel may be required to attend educational events.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree and/or Certified Professional In IACUC Administration (CPIA) certification. Prefer three to four years’ relevant work experience. Knowledge of electronic protocol software.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to follow guidelines, policies, and procedures of the university, state, local and federal agencies. etc. pertaining to biomedical research. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills (setting priorities, time management, planning and follow-up). Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and management skills including the use of computers and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to overcome language, cultural, and attitudinal barriers in order to communicate with all levels of faculty, students, and staff in a biomedical research setting. Professional demeanor with customer service orientation and ability to overcome potentially adversarial interactions with tact and discretion. Ability to learn new tasks and functions quickly. Must be able to travel between campuses, labs, and facilities if necessary.

Job Duties

  • Assists investigators with completion of the IACUC application process, significant changes to AUPs, and reviews. Responds to requests for information and assistance to research faculty, staff and other users of the online application system. Provides administrative support for the IACUC review process. Screens requests for review and routes for review appropriately. Processes applications and reviews according to established guidelines and deadlines.

  • Responsible for managing the pre- and post- meeting activities of the IACUC by preparing complete and timely meeting materials to include drafting and finalizing accurate minutes as well as processing approved review documents. Prepares reports and maintains other information files and records according to policy and completes other duties as assigned.

  • Provides administrative and logistical support for program activities to include semiannual program reviews and facilities inspections as well as post-approval compliance and monitoring programs.

  • Coordinates all administrative facets of the Occupational Health and Safety Program (OHSP), including the following activities: serve as primary contact, develop/maintain OHSP forms to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, assist OHSP enrollees navigate the process, process and maintain enrollee clearance form, contact OHSP enrollees due for required annual update/re-evaluation and coordinate facility access with DLAR facility manager.
